Default 425A Dual Point Distributor !

[SIZE="5"][B[SIZE="4"]]Did the 1962 Pontiac with the 425A option come with a Pontiac Duel Point Distributor. I bought an all original 425 A Motor and it had a totally stock looking Duel Point Distributor will clean it all up and see what the numbers on the plate, and wraparound tag number says. It also look like a large cylinder on the side with main wire going in and out from the coil and into the points !

Agree with Tom, the stock distributor on a 425A engine was single point.

Post the pics and probably can tell what you have.
I had a Mallory dual point distributor that had a big condenser on the side of it. It worked good for the times. (finding replacement points became the problem)

This is what the original nod should look like under the twist down lock cap.

If your was a early 62 then there might be a bearing oil tube coming up the side opposite the vacuum advance can.

Your Dizzy having a Condenser on its outside makes me want to say it’s a Mallory brand since aftermarket Accel types always had the Condenser on the inside from what I recall of the two of them that had , which by the way killed my daily gas milage and part throttle response below 2800 rpm due to having no vacuum advance.

In 1962 there was a Pontiac NASCAR 1110976 dual points distributor w/o vacuum advance for the 389 S.D.

Spec. No. 3721.
Starts with 0°-4°@1100 rpm, 14°-18°@1900 rpm, 21°-25°@3350 rpm and max 28°-32°@4800 rpm´s.

FWIW

I read thru his post too fast!
If it does have a rap around tag, or even a empty groove for such, then it must be a factory item.

These parts where sold over the counter so it could just have been purchased at a later date.

If I am not mistaken even in 62 they should still have a cast iron body which is something no aftermarket one for a Pontiac ever had.

I show that 1110964 and 1110970 could be dual point distributors in 1960/61.

I have this pic which was supposedly a 1961 (Kenth's post on 1962 data):

The SD dual points pretty much look the same from 60-63.They also made a tach drive version of the SDs.They were only over the counter in 60-61 and all factory 62-63 SD cars were del with the dual point dizzy. There was a electronic SD version.Never seen a SD with VA.Tom

John, the 1110964 is a 1960 std. single points distributor w/coupling attach. vac. control 1116167 and the 1110970 is a 1960 later prod. single points dist. w/slip-on vac. control 1116172, this distributor was also used on 1961 premium fuel eng´s.

True, my 303HP 62 389 had a cast iron "dizzy", but no oiling port on this one.
