Header persuasion
I don't know if anyone ever tryed this , but this worked a treat for me.
Header was rigid against the top A-arm mount , pulled it free at least 10mm(3/8"). Now keeping my fingers crossed that it didn't warp the flang and starts to leak , what a nightmare that would be. Wished I'd thought of it before I used the BFH on it though. |

I meant the bottom A-arm mount .
That's what you get from laying on your back for hours , you don't know what's up or down anymore. Trial fitted the Pypes system and it looks like I'ts gonna come up short. The X-pipe is to close to the crossmember so I'll have to shorten the 2 pypes with the X-change flange . The supplied piece of pype with the 2 butted ends that you are suppost to use for the last part up to the header collectors is probably 3 feet to short to close it all up. I bought this system 12 years ago and it's been laying in storage all this time so calling Pypes is not an option anymore. Hope I can find the same size stainless pipe over here. |

My Pypes X was too short up front and too long in back so we cut and welded to make it fit better so I can drop the tranny without pulling the exhaust if I ever need to ..

I'm having it welded at an exhaust shop , already had to go there for the O2 sensor bung.
First thing the guy says to me : " this is not stainless , look the magnet sticks to it." . . . . I'm like . . . oke , here we go , starting of with an argument . . . Always a good thing. Returned home , get back under the car only to find out that I can't get the tailpipe section properly positioned. They're not going in the recesses in the rear Valance , about 4" under the top of them. This exhaust job is a freakin nightmare front to back. |

And did the flange survive? Someone here posted a similar trick but using a blowtorch to heat up the header tubes.

Hey , a fellow countryman with a GTO.
That's something I don't come a cross on daily basis. I don't know yet Charlie. Still have a lot of stuff to hook up and probably modify , because everything on this build seems to need extra work. There's not a lot of GTO's I believe but here its been years since I've been to SNC or king cruise so maybe there's more than I think..
Unfortunately I don't know of any 12 bolt or parts for sale but if I see one I'll drop you a note. Hope the header flange survives.. post up some more pics of that car of yours, looks like a nice car from the profile pic

Lovely car! Looks like a very nice paint job and black certainly works very well on a '70!
Mine's nowhere near as nice at that. It's been in storage for a long time.

Allways liked that model , same with the Dodge Charger from that time nice lines.
What engine / gearbox ? Feel a bit silly using english here. |

I know what you mean about the English but there's only a couple of other Dutch members here
Mine has a '68 400 block, '71 #96 heads with an Offy dual quad with 2x mech sec Holley's. Supposedly it's a 461 but I have never dyno'd it or opened up the engine but it felt the similar to a Ranchero with a warmed over 460 I once owned.. The transmission is a Th400 (currently broken) and the rear end is what I believe to be a chevy 10 bolt with 2.9x gears. It used to have front drums but I changed those to discs and added upper and lower tubular a-arms, lowering springs front and rear, shocks, front and rear sway bars and rear double adjustable upper and lower control arms. The wheels are 2-piece American Racing 200S and for this exhaust topic Tribal Tubes tri-y headers, with a flowmaster exhaust kit but it has hooker aerochamber mufflers instead of the flowmasters. It has a couple of other bits and bobs added but the above is the biggest part.. the paint is a 10 footer and the hood is a poor fitting fiber glass thing... the original colour of the car was gold with a black vinyl top. I'm changing over the trans in two weeks time (have a spot in my local garage booked) and from there on I'm going to finish off the last bits and bobs and get her to the RDW this summer.. and from there we'll see.. Where in NL are you located? I'm close to Zaltbommel.

I sold a couple of Hotchkis lowering springs a few years back on marktplaats. Why the trip to the RDW ? |

It's pretty cool you guys are into this in the Netherlands. I can't imagine walking down the street of Amsterdam or Utrecht and seeing an old GTO. That'd be pretty incredible.

As long as I can remember I've liked (older) American cars, must have picked it up as a kid watching shows like the A-team, Dukes of Hazzard etc.
Utrecht my old home town, I had a ' 73 deville when I lived there.. it was a bit clumsy getting around the smaller older backstreets. There used to be a lot of older American cars here but I think it's become a little less over the years..

Sounds like that engine should be a blast. I'm curious how much power that engine will make..
Waiting for 10 years, I know what's like! I hope it fires up ok and the th400 works out fine. Ha! I really need to get mine on the road.. can't wait to drive it.
