Default th350 behind 230 ohc

Hi all,
I would like to throw a th350 behind the 230 in my 67 Fbird. What would be a good stall for this application. Right now it is a 1bbl, but I will be going to the 4bbl engine. Factory a/c car so it has the 3:23 rear gear.

With the six, my philosophy is the higher the better, but there is practical limits to that. Because the 200-4r has a lock up, I went with the highest stall I could find cheaply that still locked up and that was 2,500rpm, which became an actual stall of 1,700rpm. Just remember, what ever the stall rating is, it is usually based on a V8's torque rating, so it will be quite a bit lower behind the six. I would like to have seen an actual stall of 2,200-2,500rpm on mine and based on the drag strip performance, it appears the torque curve is like factory and tabletop flat.

I communicated with a gentleman that has a TCI breakaway for sale here on the forum. It is only advertised as 1,000 rpm higher than stock stall. Behind a small block the catalog says 2,200 to 2,400 rpm stall. Low torque 230 might give a stall around 1,700,,,guessing. Would that be too low? I think I might prefer a little higher. But I'm not first in line so it might be a moot point, but at least I'll learn.

I would go for as much stall as you could get, When I put a 200R4 behind a stock 66 4bbl engine the advertised stall of the reasonable priced lock up converter was 2800 rpm. Well in actuality behind the low torque engine its stall was about 1700 rpm. So I would figure about a 33% reduction on the advertised stall. I should have spent the extra $$$ and had a custom converter made for it. Sense I was using the lock up feature of the converter anyway, slightly to much stall would not have been and issue a cruising speeds.
That heavy 66 Lemans with A/C and many other options needed more stall speed, probably would have liked a true 2500 for launch.

Thanks for the response. That real world experience gives me a percentage to base a selection on.
