Default 64 GTO Wiper Question

Got a 1 speed wiper motor. It was working, now its not. I thought because the dash switch fell apart. Picked up a new switch that has 2 contacts. Can't see where these plug into tho.
Also tested the motor by applying 12v and ground.... motor doesn't work. This is a defintive test for the motor??. I take it that the switch provides ground to the motor. Also tested for continutiy between the wiper harness connector and ground and it reads open.
Also my shop manual says the wiper linkage needs to be disconnected under the dash in order to remove the motor.... looked but don't see where. Do see linkage thru the cowl tho.

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

tom

If it's like my 65, and I think it is, You'll need to pull the cowl vent from in front of the windsheild to gain access to the linkage.

You're correct in the switch grounds the motor and yes you should be able to make it run by applying 12 and a ground to it.

It also sticks in my head that the motor needs to be grounded to the cowl by a strap to one of the mounting bolts. be sure this is clean if it's there.

If everything is installed in car check proper terminal on wiper motor for 12V power.
look at wiper motor from front of car while installed. the top terminal on the left side should always have 12V at it. This is the power to wiper motor. the next terminal down can be jumped to ground and it should run the motor.

If you have a 64 tempest chassis manual read trouble diagnosis on 11-70

Tom, if that switch you got has 2 contacts it could be a 2 speed switch. If it is, go to NAPA and get a 2 speed wiper motor. They are the cheapest for replacements and they WILL work. Stay away from Auto Zone... theirs are junk. I know that as I went thru 4 of them from Auto Zone.
