I have noticed that the March pulley's are getting more popular. I saw a guy at the local cruise last weekend and he said he is picking up 50 - 75 Hp. That seems incredible. He has a chevy 502. Which does put out close to 500 Hp.
The March system is kinda expesive. Pushing $ 900.00.
Has any one used them and got that kind of performance out of them? I remember when Mazz posted pic's of his his new motor, he had it on his.
Overpriced ?
Worth the money ?
Better for the engine ?
It does look cool.

Contact Goathead (Danny). I think his car has the March pulleys.

I'm not sure your going to see that much horsepower out of a set of pulleys but you will see a gain. Are you looking for serpentine or v-belt. We have both avail at Summit.

I just purchased a March Serpentine System for my 76 T/A non air from Summit Racing. At $650.00 of course i bitched about the price but it's only money. If i didn't spend it on pulleys i'd spend it on beer. I don't think you will see a 50 hp increase, 10 or 15 hp maybe is more like it.

How about the reliability ?

Is there one better than the other : Flat vs. V belt ?

He also had electric fan's, is this the only way, no motor driven fan ?

Yes it does! Seems like a lot of Chevy guys pick up 50-75 HP with everything they do! Not all guys are that goofy, but the few that are make it difficult to scientifically analyze beneficial changes. Does this guy have dyno sheets, or just seat of the pants feel?

Both systems will last just as long. You have less of a problem with the belt coming off at high rpm's with the serpentine than you do with the v-belt.

50-70hp over stock v-belts? Never happen.

HP gain.
Just looks better and preload is set if you use an tension loaded ilder pulley.

Ken, my "yes it does" was referring to the blodface type in quotes "does this seem incredible?"

I don't buy that 50 HP bridge either.

If you are considering the March system you might want to check out the new www.rodneyred.com serpentine system. Half the cost of the March system with all of the advantages, not quite as glossy as the aluminum parts are nautral finish.

Les,

I couldn't find it on that site. I saw radiators and underdrive pullys, but no serpentine system. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

Sorry about that, I just checked Rodney Red's site and discovered the same thing. I emailed Jerry Wirth for info.. I am aware of this new system as my GTO club, the SCGG gave one of these systems as a raffle prize @ our Western Regional meet held this Sept. One of our club members was the winner and has it installed on his 69 GTO. Will advise.

Les,
Thanks. I like the March system, but I can't justify the cost. I look forward to hearing more about the Rodney Red system.

Thanks again,
Bob

I received my March Serpentine System today and now i know why they cost so much. I have had the March V-Belt system for some time and all that came with it was the pulleys. This serpentine system has everything including billet aluminum brackets for the power steering and alternator, also a billet aluminum alternator fan. The alt and water pump pulleys also have nose covers included. The p/s pump pulley has no nose cover because the #550 cover is not available yet. This kit replaces all your original mounting brackets and adjustment brackets and includes all hardware. Everything is polished and clear coated and everything mounts in the original location on the engine with a idler pulley an bracket. As i said above ORIGINAL LOCATION, i think the other system you are talking about has the power steering pump mounted otherwise. By the way, the March system did not include a belt so now i have to go out and buy a 6-rib 66" belt.

Run the RodneyRed v pulleys Less complicated than
serpentine. Especially with no A/C.

Yea, I kinda thought he was full of it.
Robert, let me know how the install goes.

More dependable is the name of the game.

1 more stupid question, Are the RPM's on the pulleys the same ?
I understand the main pulley is turning at the speed of the engine, but is there any RPM's lost on the way around ? Larger / smaller pulley's ?

I told you it was a stupid question. I'm just thinking about water flow/ fan speed. I don't want to lose any cooling properties. If Summitt is selling them for $600.00, that's really not that bad for the whole system. I would think it would come with a belt though.

I'm alway's learning here, someday I will be a pinion head too.

I have the full March serpentine setup on my GTO. It definitely cleans up the front of the motor, and Im very pleased with the way it looks. It worked with the large Powermaster alternator I have on the car as well (though I did need a longer belt). And it clears the large dual Spal fans mounted on the aluminum shroud.

I don't buy the "power gains" that the March system claims or anyone else. But I will add this little bit of thought.

Slowing down the water pump has the effect of reducing the cooling capacity of your system. The faster the coolant flows the more cooling you'll get.

So what efffect will slowing down the other components have on them?
