Robert Johnson, the gentleman that usually drove the Ponte, owns it now. He had to buy it at auction after Mr. Wangers nephew decided to auction off all of Jim's cars.

I wonder what happened to its visual twin, the MonteCarlo? That car was back-halfed with a SBC 383 with a huge shot of N2O. Jim never ran it much, preferring the Ponte.

They put a 4" stroke after market block engine in the car and went at least 8.80 on spray and low tens on motor.
Mid 11's sounds right for the 440 engine that was in the car when they were still racing the red TA. When Jim sold the red TA in the early 2000's, the TA engine went into the Ponte. The TA engine was considerably stronger. From that point forward the Ponte Carlo slowly morphed into a thinly disguised race car. Last edited by PAUL K; 06-21-2021 at 08:11 PM. |

Was not the Ponticarlo one of the first cars to test out a production Victor on?

I thought the Gee-To Tiger went through the auction along with the Ponte and the rest of his remaining cars. I know all of them sold for a LOT less than the auction company estimated they would go for.

I was thinking about the Monte Carlo steering box in my car and I thought about seeing the Ponticarlo run, LACR was in part built on leased ground belonging to a gravel company apparently the gravel became a greater source of income
