Default Cocktail shakers...what are they?

I've got a 67 'vert...what are those things at each corner of my 'bird? Just wondering...

Just saw a thread or article somewhere on these. I think it said it was for vibration dampening. Convertible only.

to correct harmonics or dampen vibrations.
I think it was mainly for washboard roads ,railroad tracks etc.
first used on the Corvair.
