Default Would GTA 16" Wheels fit a 78?

I like to run diff wheels on my car, I looked at the flakes for so long I'm sick of them, it seems every jamoke puts 8" flakes on, about as bad as 8 lugs, used to love them too, first I had a set of steel wheels painted solar gold with 78 dog dish, now I have a mint set of gold rally's from a 78 SE flake delete car, my next set I'd like to put on is the gold or black GTA wheels, I think the front and rears are diff widths, will these fit a 78, I think they are 16" also, anyone done this? What codes am I looking for?

If you lived closer we could bolt on mine from my 89 and see!

I know the fronts have less offset, so you might want to try both fronts & rears & maybe run all the same? Not sure if they would be harder to find that way or not though.

Fronts all the way around might look better if they don't stick out too much?

Last summer I stripped the clear coat of mine & polished them. Looked 1000 times better than the aged & cracking oem finish.

Hey Now.

Lol

I was even thinking of the Black ones, I saw a set at the GM swap here but I wasn't sure on anything. Man, I'd love to bolt on a set to see.

What did you strip the wheel with? Oven Cleaner?
More details please.

I used paint stripper & also an artists brush where is meets the gold lace. I put the wheel on a brake lathe so it was well lit & easy to control. after it was stripped I sanded with 800-1000-1500-2000-2500 to remove the marks under the clear. I do have more pictures I can post later today. Its just clear, no anodization on them.

I am not sure if the black wheels use the same process as the gold, but the gold isn't very tough. I could see where strong chemicals like brake cleaner or purple cleaner might harm the finish some?

The only tricky thing was getting the clear removed at the machined edge where it meets the gold. That was a pain. I'll try to post picts tonight

Yes, the fronts fit fine. The backs have too much offset and cause issues. A friend runs four fronts on his 78 Gold SE.

You mean like this? "Fronts on the front "rears" on the rear 255-50-16s.

I still have the set of tires I bought in 1983, Goodyear Eagles, 60's, they rubbed in the back on a hard turn. One rubbed the orig tailpipe on one side the other rubbed the back of the wheel well, not a big deal, the tailpipe was fixed with the new exhaust, my next question, what size tire ? I'll have to look for 4 fronts it looks like. It may be easier to find a set. What do the center caps look like? Would the SE Burd fit in them?

I bolted a set on my 81 Pace Car. Don't mind the garage, the car is being stored at a friends house while I finish up my K10.

Fronts on front, rears on rear, 215/60-16's and 295/50-16s. The fronts are way too small, and the backs rub, but they look badass.

Where do you think rip the back was rubbing, back side of the wheel well? Fender?
I really wanted to but a correct set, the beauty of these parts is you can always sell them when your tired of them.

The "rears" have a pretty good offset in and anything bigger than 255 will rub unless you go "fronts" all around. When I autocross the car I had roadrace slicks on 4 IROC 16" Cheaper and easier to find)
"fronts" as well as some drag DOT 305s on "fronts".
The GTA wheels had autocross compound BFGs for street use.

Downside now on 16s vs 17s fewer size selection.

Even the Buick GNXs used a GTA wheel on them.

Classis sell repop GTA wheels. The gold is much brighter than my original ones. There were also two styles one with the indention like the licture above where the spoke joins in , others that are flat there.

Hawks Third Gen also now sells a 17" version of the GTA wheels. Center cap emblems are same size I believe Burd. I had some custom made for mine at the time.

No GTA lugnuts are taper seat. Factory were 12mm steel with a black plastic cap.

With the 295/50's they rub on the inner fenders towards the backside, and they rub the exhaust setup I have currently. I also had them on my 71 and they cleared everything but the traction bars. They're probably 1/8" from the leaf springs, so I imagine if I drove it around corners they'd rub pretty bad.

They look badass though! And you're 100% correct, you'll always be able to sell GTA wheels.

I bought my T/A as a kid in 1979, I'm so tired of snowflakes, the 8" flakes really piss me off because everyone puts them on, i had painted steelys on w/ dogdish for like 15 years, I liked the look. And the F Body guys hated them so I kept them on. Now the Gold Rally's, I like em. But the look of the GTA's are sweet. In that one pic it looks like flake nuts are on the wheel. I'm still not sure on what kind of lug Uts go on them.

If you plan on putting on a new set of tires, contact me about the old ones - I may be interested if they aren't dry rotted.
