Has anyone out there found a dye that duplicates or at least closely approximates the Firethorn (reddish-orange) color found in the interiors of many of the 70s Pontiacs?

Dave,
Sorry, I stopped by a UPS Store today to let them quote costs and they told me that they won't ship spray paint from there. They told me I would have to go directly to UPS (so what is a UPS Store? ). It may not be worth it. Not that it matters but I discovered that mine is vinyl dye afterall.

Jim,
That sounds like a good deal to me, and thanks for the offer. I need the vinyl dye, too, but having 1.5 cans of the plastic lacquer would give me one less thing to buy. Does the PO charge a lot to send an aerosol product through the mail?

I purchased a spray can of Firethorn Red vinyl dye to spray the plastic seat back of a 1976 Cosworth Vega and it turned out perfect. The paint store had the can on the shelve so I am sure that it is available in many paint stores.

Damn...weird that they make it such a hassle to ship...it was shipped to you in the first place. Thanks for doing all the legwork, that was very nice of you. If you wanted to spray a small sample for me, that would be pretty helpful. I'll e-mail you my address.

I'll do the sample this evening.

I even said to UPS that they delivered it in the first place. Go figure?

Dave,
If your looking for plastic/metal interior lacquer, I might have 1 1/2 spray cans that I can send you. I tried to order some '68 red from a repro parts vendor and it looked too orange. When I called them, they said their supplier used the same code as the 70s Firethorn. Sure enough, their catalog has it that way. They issued me a credit but did not want it back. Rather than toss it, I can send it to you for shipping costs. If first you want me to spray a test piece and sent it to let me know. This is not the vinyl dye, however.

Checked with the USPS and they won't let me mail it either.
