Hey Guys. Looking for more good advice. Putting together a 400 for my 79 T/A. It is zero decked, 40 over, 6X-4 heads cut to 84cc's,ported to 225cfm ( From SD Performance) Cam is 224-234@50thou, 465-488 lift. 112LCA. 350 tranny, plan to keep the A/C. Now for my question I purchased a flow kooler water pump. But need to decide on a radiator. Do I need to install a 4 core or is it going to be overkill? I live in NY very diverse weather conditions.Assuming I will run a 180 degree stat. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rob
P.S. will my current shroud bolt to a larger radiator?

Never saw a Pontiac motor that couldn't use a little extra cooling help. Especially if your goin' racin. If you don't have a four row already, it's a good idea. Won't affect anything but your wallet and your motor's temp. Both will be lower when you're done.

Rob, Go with the 4-row radiator. Run the stock fanclutch with a 7-blade fan. I would run a 160 thermostat. Go for the best. Overkill is better than having to go through the process again.

Rob, Just replaced the stock 3core radiator in my'68 GTO with a B-Cool(very expensive)radiator.Read previous post"benifts of fan cluth vs.spacer".I have found so far the benifits far outway the expense.also while I was in the neighborhood I took the advise of JC455 among others who told me to replace the water pump,it was well worth it plus I found out I was missing one divider.About the thermostat I used a 160 since I don't use the car in winter(Garage Queen)and the heater is not a concern, use the 180 if you need heat. The peace of mind not seeing the temp go over 200 plus was worth it definitely not over kill. Hey I can tell ya what I got and it seems to be working very well.
The car is a 77 TA with 462 cid POntiac, comp cams extreme energy 274 cam 230/236 @.050 and 9.6 compression. Im running a autozone 4 row radiater that cost 190 bucks & a new autozone water pump , 160 degree thermostat and I smoothed the water pump hole that joined the intake they are sometimes very restrictive. checked devider plates and installed new rubber seals on the tubes. the car runs right at 160 on the road and even during the time I was charging the AC system in the shop or breaking in the cam it never got above 200 degrees or so. Good luck on yours mine is running cool in mid 90 degree heat with the AC on.
