Question New car purchase
The gf Has a 2004 sebring with the 2.7 engine that is known to sludge up etc... well this is the second time I have put a oil sending unit in it . and I am afraid that down the road it will die just like all the other ones I have read about.. it has 98,000 miles now... We were looking at trading it in on a new kia optima.. they have excellent crash ratings etc.. which is very important to her and me too... What do u guys think of those cars?

I had a 2001 I bought for my daughter off My Dad who bought it new. He really didn't have that much trouble with it engine/trans wise outside of a few sensors and replacing the timing belt a couple of times but the little nickel dime stuff like a handle here, a knob there, a power window here, only one on working there..., paint coming off this mirror and that handle etc etc. This car was ALWYAS garage kept and no one rode in it 90% of the time because it was his work car. I sold it with 150,000 on it but never really liked it. Cheaply made in my opinion and is truly designed as a "disposable" car. Even though it still looked nice, It was done!
If your looking in the Korean market, Hyundai is hands down better in my opinion.

Hyundai is the only sensible choice for an Asian marque. The others are priced way too high or just don't have near the performance or both. Personally, I'd pick a VW over any Asian brand car.

The 2.7 I think got a bad rep from lack of maintenance. the wife's intrepid was trouble free until i had to have heart surgery. she and her daughter ran it until there was three quarts off sludge in the pan instead of having it serviced until i could do it. They took out a rod Bering and gauged the crank (the common complaint with the 2.7). The Kia i have heard good and bad. I think the key to any new car is to keep it under warranty. When that expires get another.

Grandville, why are replacing the sender units? The Sebrings 2.7 don't sludge up like the Intrepid 2.7 better PCV systems. If your replacing the senders for a dash light flickering their was a tip from Dodge to remove the the extra wire plug from the connector at the sender unit and leave it open. (plug at sender has cavity for two wires but only uses one). Don't know why but it works.

well ALL I know is I type in 2.7 sebring and I see nothing but troubles with that engine..sludge,timing chain tensioners,water pump seals,etc

I know it's un-American, but I buy Nissan's for my wife and daughter, hundreds of thousands of miles and all we buy is tires, brakes, batteries, belts, oil changes and fuel, just like it's SUPPOSED TO BE!.....FWIW.....Cliff

Cliff, just like my Mercury. A lot of yrs, 500k miles and it's just starting to need a trans. Normal maintenance until now.

No matter what type of vehicle you are looking for... buy American. It's a free country, so you can buy what you want. But, how many of those foreign countries are going to fight for your freedom when it is in jeopardy? In case you don't know the answer, it's ZERO!
