Default starter wires 69 gp 400

took my starter out to change a burnt wire and noticed when i put it back there was another terminal marked R on the starter.my question is .is that used to connect any wires?

One wire comes from ign. one from the battery one from alt. and one to the coil the R should go to coil----BOB

when i took the starter out it had the wire going to the R on the starter.i took out another starter that i had removed from another motor that was in the shed and there was a wire on the S but none on the R.does it make a difference and would this cause hard starting after an hour drive? thanks

Some cars use the "R" terminal, others don't. "F" bodies used the "R" terminal to provide full bat voltage to the ignition coil when starting. "A" bodies did not use the terminal, instead they had an ignition switch with a IGN2 circuit that did the same thing.

OEM wire color on the "R "term was yellow, it went from the "R" term up to the coil (+), same color was used on the "A" bodies xcept it came thru the firewall bulkhead connector.

switched them around and would not start put it back on R and started right up.drove it for 40 miles shut it and she fired right up again two years with this problem and it was a busted wire. thanks
