4 sp big car 60' times
Ran the Catalina in the icon wed nite. Had some 10.5" x 24 M.T. et streets on. Wide ratio with a 3:42 rear gear , and a 35# steel flywheel. Best 60' was 1.96. Have no reference for how this number compares to other 4sp aircraft carriers. Think we left a little on the table by not being able to put any heat in the tires due to no line loc.

What was the other times?
1.96 60' is a decent time, especially for a big car.

It's right there, you just need to tune on it. Heat those tires and launch a little harder.

That's a pretty decent 60' for a manual in a land barge. I think you're right about the Line Loc. Heat the tires better plus it may help you at the launch as well.
BTW: I think I said a few years ago how much I admired your sedan, love the color. Must be fun sass-shaying thru the gears in a big car Poncho. Darksiders rule. Jim

Thx everyone. It's a 400 block with a cast stroker crank to 462". 670 heads that flowed 249/204 @ .5". 30 cc dished piston, XE 284H, Torker II, with a 850 Holley, 120# cranking pressure, 493/525 on the dyno. Used 91 unoxy gas, wish I would have tried 87, think it might have liked it better.

What does that Dark Sider weigh?!
My LeMans wagon weighed in at 4550 lbs. When I had the muncie, hays flywheel, centerforce DF in it, I ran a best 1.77 60 foot. IIRC it was a 12.70ish @ 107. I had to play with getting the best 60'. With the CF DF I would leave @ 4000 RPM and rolling out of the clutch (or slightly slipping it) seemed to work best. Didn't want to just side step it! Although, while stoplight racing.....side stepped it and blew up first gear taking out the cluster! Live and learn.....!

I'm guessing 4400# w driver, the scales weren't open. The wagon really worked, what rear gear did you have and what 1st gear ? Did you do your burn out in 2nd ?
I'm looking fwd to getting back out with the car. It will have a line loc, but I don't ever think it will see a 1.70 60'. Think the wagon may have had a little better aero working for it than the mini aircraft carrier , not an excuse, just saying. |

figured out how to downsize a picture so I could upload, quite an accomplishment for one with such limited computer chops !!

It had 3.55's on BFG 275-60 DR's....did the burnout in 1st gear....didn't think of using 2nd. But I think the wagon has more weight in the back to aid in traction. I was running the stock gear for the M20....2.2 I believe? Not certain though....
What clutch are you running? The Centerforce dual friction really grabs hard so you can really get good launches. But it takes some practice. Stickboy helped me with launching on a couple of threads I had started IIRC. The line lock really helps from rolling through the lights.....it's really needed with the manual trans I think.

105 mph should be enough for a 12.70 pass if it 60's... my 63 Catalina 60'd 1.4

With a T400 and 3.42:1 gears I ran high 1.6's with a 12.1 @ 110 mph best in my '66 GP back in the eighties. Had 26x8.5 M/T slicks too though. 4250#
Rob... Nice post car BTW! I have two. A '66 Tempest and a '66 Catalina.

2nd gear burnout standing on the brakes for 5 sec...get some smoke going... Shallow stage, rpm up around 3500-4000, 2nd yellow start to release clutch just enough to start to shift the weight of the car. On the last yellow, release the rest of the way into the "grabby" section of clutch while matting the gas pedal...hopefully it sticks and you keep the rpms above 3000 and it will 60' decent on Drag Radials. Shallow staging helps you not red light because the whole car is moving thru the lights on the last 2 yellows.
Sidestepping with street tires will not work. It is a feel for the weight of the car, power applied, clutch release, etc...If you have a true slick, then you can launch around 5000 and just let it go, but the driveline must be strong. My best with DR has been low 1.70's, there is def more there, but I don't have as much time to race anymore, too busy with work stuff. Although at some tracks on some days this doesn't work and it will bog (too low) or spin the tire (too high) 4 speed racing is not very consistant, but it sure is challenging and fun (when you run good and don't break anything)

4 speed racing is like golf...........very difficult if you don't practice....but it's great when you hit a good one!
I still hate golf though!

Really cool car man ! Love seeing Big cars run! Consider a RPM intake over TorkerII with current 3.42 gears??? Seems like it would help you ET quicker..IMO Instead of making a choice to less streetable gears which is just to help the single plane combo and in turn run out of breath up top do to the XE cam calling it quits over 5200 that many have seen??
