Default 68 Lemans Wheel/Tire Opinion

Hey Guys,
Awhile back i upgrade to front disk and had to replace the 14's i had. I ended up getting the 17" rally 2's, and while its a nice look, ive decided to go with 15" rally 2's instead. I just could not get into the 17's look , don't know why, but it just hit me the other day ..
So after scanning the forums and looking at every pic i could ive come up with a combo i think will work. I'm looking for mostly stock look with a little extra tire in the rear and just wanted a sanity check to make im not missing something obvious.
Currently, I am running 17x9's (5"BS) all around with 245/45 up front, and 255/50 in the rear (Picture is attached)
What im thinking of running is 15x7 (4"BS) with 235/60 in front and 15x8 (4.5"BS) 245/60 in the rear. The only reason i went with 15x8 on rear is i wanted to avoid the balloon look if it was on a 7" rim.
Any thoughts on why this combo wouldn't work?
Thanks Again!
Mike

Mike
I just bought 5-15 X 7's from a fellow PYer as I am doing a disc brake swap on one of the 68 verts. we have and I do not think the JC wheels will fit. Anyway the plan is running 245-60/15's in the rear (26.6" tall vs. 25.1" tall for the current 235-60/14) and do not see a problem with the 7 inch rim for that size. I wanted all the wheels the same size so the trim ring depth would be the same all around like the 14 x 6's I currently have. I know a friend had trouble finding trim rings to fit the 8" rims (they left a 1/2" gap but they where repro Rally I's) but you should be able to find them.
Originally we had contemplated using those 17" wheels too but were thinking 9" rear and 8" front (assuming they make those). I keep flip flopping on whether I like those on an A Body or not and guess we are just playing it safe with the 15's.
Dave

If you like your current stance with the 245/45/17 front and the 255/50/17 rear...

I would agree with your 236/60/15 for the front (26.1" tall compared the 25.7" tall for the 17's), but I would look at a 255/60/15 for the rear (27.1 vs. 27" for the 17").

Currently you have 1.3" of "rake" with your 17's. With a 235/245 combo you would only have .5" of "rake". 235/255 would give you 1 full inch.

Thanks for the input guys. Im glad nobody said 'no that wont fit!" haha. Ill check out 245's on 7" rim . I think i just assumed it would look off.
Im looking for a more stock rake. Im gonna start with the tires and i have a couple of sets of f/r springs to play with to hopefully get the look right.

Mike,
We spoke in the past and you're maybe 1/2 hour away. I'd be happy to "lend" you a pair of 15 x 7's (HW code IIRC) and you can mount up your proposed tire to see how it looks/clears, etc.. (I assume you did not buy them yet). Then you can decide if you want 8" wheels in the back or not. Only cost you to mount/dismount them. Also, I'd like to possibly see how the 17's fit on my convertible too. Let me know...

Thank again guys .. I ordered wheels and tires the other day , should have everything installed sometime next week if the shipping goes quickly .. ill be sure to post of picture once installed and get the springs right.
Dave - once i get the new wheels and tires i can either lend you the 17's or we can install them on your car at my friends shop in williston park. Ill PM you sometime next week and we can figure it all out.
thanks,
Mike
