Default Unusual yard sale find, even stranger thrift store score

Two weeks ago a neighbor a couple of doors down was having a yard sale. Out on the lawn were some large, retail-style letters, laid out to read "Got Game". I thought nothing of them for a couple of minutes, until I had a Eureka moment and saw "GTO" in them. A quick haggle and I walked home with them for $20. They were once lighted, and after a trip to Home Depot for some bulbs and bulb holders, $10 got them lit again. I chopped up an extension cord and wired them up, cut and painted some plywood white and mounted a couple of 2" x 4"s to the back of that as a mount, and voila, a 30 buck lighted GTO sign. Nearly as strange as a thrift store find last Thursday; a pair of Puma Ferrari mid-top driving shoes for $20. Had to have 'em.

If the shoes are SFI rated for actual race car driving they'll be worth more, but I'm guessing they're meant for street use. Either way, they're nice to have for high performance driving.

I was at Hobby Lobby last week and had a similar idea when I saw these letters. I was thinking "PONTIAC" though but there wasn't enough letters.

Really cool finds HJones! That sign is killer, and those shoes are really cool.

These things are really cool. Theres enough letters to assemble Pontiac, at least for me it shows there is. It comes out to $87 plus shipping.

I agree they are cool! I don't have a wall big enough for them though..LOL..May be able to order all the letters I would guess. The particular (brick and mortar) store I was at didn't have all the letters however.

I was at Hobby Lobby a few weeks back and they have more letters than any other place I've ever seen, anyone can probably duplicate some sort of sign for a few bucks. As for the shoes, I have an interested buyer who wants to have them for $50. That makes 'em cooler! One last thing; I made some other letters out of plastic sheet that I had mounted on the inside of the deck lid, until my daughter got me a large GTO sign (from Hobby Lobby) for my BD, which made me move the letters to my tool box. The letters were easy, and I think they look kinda cool.

Default So Close....

So in a moment of cosmic irony, last night on my way to gym I spot next to dumpster a block from my house, a pile of light up letters. Really. Was in a hurry, so made note to check out in an hour or so later when get back. They were maybe 16" tall letters. Saw an "E"....

Get back.......... GONE.....................

I'll never know what they spelled. EDSEL............... damn.....
