Hi,

I bought a driver condition 76 Trans Am 455 4 speed, no ac 50th anniversary car last fall. Car has 45k miles, but the radiator in the car started leaking and is beyond repair.

Radiator shop has a radiator from a 76 trans am with the following that they could restore for me...

stamped CV on the passenger side tank (manual)

ID tag has:
IF.... FA (FA are large letters)
CV
156

I can't find my build sheet, looked under the dash, in the doors, or in/under any of the seats. I didn't check behind the rear interior panels yet.

From old parts manuals and looking at other 455 4 speed and 400/455 50th car build sheets, most seem to have FA, FC, or FO.

Should it be part number 3030189, 3030111, 3033156?

Some tags have the entire part number on them, this one has 156. Is that the part number or mean it was manufactured on the 156th day of the year (June 5, 1976). My car was manufactured July 1976 per phs sheet.

Would the FA radiator be an accurate radiator to purchase and restore for my car?

If the tanks are good on the OE, why can't they recore it?
The tag will have a number on the bottom with the last number being the year indicator. If the one you're looking at is originally from a '73-4, I would be interested in it.

The radiator mine has was repaired once and I'm not convinced it is right for the car, though the owner of it since 1977 said it is original. It's tag is not very legible due to pitting.

The picture attached is the one I am looking at. Is the year the last digit of the three larger numbers or the stamping at th base of the clip?

What is the significance of the three numbers? AI says it is the day the unit was made, so 156 = June 5th, 1976. I'm not sure that is accurate.

AI is incorrect.

FA - pick code for assembly line worker printed on the build sheet
IF - tank code on driver side
CV - tank code on passenger side
156 - core code

In between the C and V is the month and year ID.
In the picture of my '74 radiator is G (July) 3 (1973). And part number is on the top instead of the bottom (3030109, can't see the year ID).

Your picture shows A (January), can't read year.

Appreciate the info, I don't know much about radiator numbers. Regarding the FA being a pick code, the 76 service manual lists codes for various cars and then corresponding part numbers.

It is hard to interpret, but looks like a 455 4 speed 76 car would have a FC or FA, the FA would be part number 3030189 (the one pictured shows a 30---89 (cant read the numbers in between).

Could this be an accurate radiator for a 76 455 4 speed no ac car?
