Are you talking about modifying the firewall and using the stock vents or a cowl induction hood?

yes, im talking about just running a duct from the firewall to a hat/box on the carb
or bring it in from the grill
im trying to stay away from the scoop on the hood deal.
thanks for the reply

Yardbird, in about 1966 a friend, who built hot air heating systems, made a hat, like you described, for my dual quad 389 that was ducted from the heater inlet housing in my 63 LeMans. With no other changes, I went from a 12.14 to 11.71.

Jim Hand has been doing it for years. Air cleaner to firewall cowl duct. His is homemade by adding a second hose duct to a stock aircleaner and two hoses to the holes in firewall. I just read an article on a restored 63 Z-11. Air cleaner to cowl from the factory. RamAir something or other company has been selling air cleaners for years that have two 4" duct openings to go forwards or backwards. Not sure if an air cleaner element goes in it or its just a huge carb hat. The difference in ambient air and underhood air can be well over a hundred degrees.

Fab'd a semi enclosed air cleaner to cowl panel and TA shaker scoop(attached to hood) on my 68 FB.
Lower pan and sides extend to opening in cowl.
No top, but with weatherstripping, it should seal 95% to cowl and hood.
The windshield is out(stripping/patching/repainting), so i dont know how effective it is yet.
Will have pic's as soon as i get someone over to fix home computer

Hey Everybody, I just have to ask - Will NHRA allow you to run such a thing in the ET Brackets? Thanks Again, CraigG.

Lightbulb

I built my cold air setup using a '74 B-body (Bonneville) air cleaner, adding a second snorkel. I used an angled plastic duct from a B-body on the passenger side, and a straight one from an X-body (Ventura) on the driver's side.

Both are plumbed into the cowl using metal tubing ducts that I fabricated, one has 3 tabs welded to the tube to attach over the hole that used to hold the wiper motor. The other one has a tube welded to 1/8" thick plate that covers the hole where the heater blower fan used to reside.

I didn't have to cut or drill anything on my car ('64 GTO) to plumb the air to the cowl, since I had removed both the heater and wipers from my car these two holes were available. The holes are both plenty big enough to flow all the air the engine needs.

I think I spent about $30 at the local Pick-Your-Part for all the factory components.

I have the ones I took off to go racing, they're going right back on now that this car is done with it's racing duties.

They only rust off on cars from Florida, not here in So Cal wiseguy.

Heater and wipers are going back on too on this street car, so I won't be using the aircleaner I fabbed. Won't fit anyway with the bathtub tunnel ram intake I'll be running on my street car.

thanks for the replies, and the pics, i guess i will have to fab sumthing that is real low profile to keep from cuting a hole in the hood.

i have a 8"cowl hood scoop but it is allmost the size of my hood. lol
we talked about cuting it down but i like the clean look of a first gen f/b hood with no scoops.. cant say its stealth because the open headers and slicks are hard to hide, but thats another day

thanks again mr. hand and b-man for the pics.

anyone else?

Over on the FGF site this was a nicely job done, although it's a sbc it's a nice cowl induction system on a FGF.

It all fits under the hood, with about 2-1/2" of clearance from the air cleaner flange on the carbs.

I'll be building an airbox to fit over them, with cool air feeding the quads.
