Default Launch Technique with 4 speed manual

I've read some advice using search function, but I wanted to ask some specific and simple questions:
Q) Do you just drop the clutch or slowly engage it when launching?

And follow up question:
Q) I've read some folks say that they lightly engage the clutch on the line to take up drivetrain slack and then launch from there. Seems to me that doing so would create excessive heat and likely slippage, not to mention wear.

Background: I've never raced at the track in a 4spd. I'm pretty good with the stick but all my prior muscle cars were autos, so trying to get all this power down is definitely tricky business!

Quick stats:
469 Butler stroker with xe274 cam
M21 (built with beefed up parts)
3.42 rear also built strong with Timken Racing axles
26" drag radials and also 28" street BFG T/A's

Full details of the car can be found here:
