I am reading the original hand written order sheet dated oct, 16, 1969 from Cartelli Pontiac out of Holyoke Mass, which is signed by the salesman and the original purhaser of my 1970 gto conv, 455, 4 speed car. The order sheet clearly states as one of the options "exhaust D.C." price $63.14. Correct me if I am wrong is this the Humbler or tiger button exhaust option? I believe it is. The car was delivered without the option, any one care to speculate as of why. It was ordered and paid for. One theory is pontiac stopped making it at that time. Any input woud be greatly appreciated. If it is what I believe it to be, would it be wrong or incorrect to add this option now, since it was originally ordered with it? The car was also ordered with what is listed as a foam steering wheel, price $42.13, (Formula wheel?) also not delivered what gives?

well as for the
"tiger button exhaust" GM brass nixed it after the 1969/70 superbowl commercial that displayed it .. quite possibly your car was ordeed before but built after the elimination of that option, also as far as the faom wheel .. well it was over 35 years ago , thaose foam whhels had a habit of rotting apart -- especially if left in a hot sun with top down

If you want about the most educated answer possible from this forum to your question, try contacting PY member supcarbob and see if he would be willing to look at emailed copies of your documents.

Tiger Button/Vacuum Operated Exhaust was supposedly only made available on order sheets with YS and WT base 400 non-ram air engines.

As for your Cars order, they must have been trying to get by and see what happened by trying to order it anyway. Then it was rejected/omitted by quality control from the build order. Don't know what to say about the formula wheel, they may have not been available at that particular plant at that particular time, if it's not on the PHS invoice.

It would have required prior consent with a special memo order for clearance to have had the VOE included with the build of a 455 Car. Or a dealer installation after delivery. The original owner/orderer probably received a refund for those items.

More then likely option was cancelled between time customer ordered and actual assembly produced. I have several bill of sales from cars sold at our dealership back then that had a salesmen written bill of sale and car was produced different due to compatibility of options,options on hold at assembly date or option cancelled.I also remember formula steering wheel was 'on hold' at start of 'A' body production. If car was ordered for stock the factory was substituting the custom sport(wood) wheel at assembly date. If car was ordered sold the zone office/factory would notify dealer to inform customer to make call on waiting for option,changing to different option or cancelling option.
Remember most salespeople back then(and today) were not really up on options and these things happened a lot on sold customer ordered cars.

supercarbob, great info...so, the PHS invoice would show the Formula wheel but the Custom Sport (wood) wheel would have been substituted at the factory...

Could/would this be correct?

Can anyone tell me what the tiger exhaust is? Could it be the muffler by - pass, controled from the dash? I have seen the 1970 Humbler TV commercial, which shows the actor pulling a knob to run the exhaust straight from the Ram Air exhaust manifolds. Is this it? If so, does anyone offer repro set ups including the dash knob and bracket, with the Pontiac arrow head decal, as seen in the commercial?

Just more proof that you could order options, but not be guaranteed to get them: On Aug 8th,1969 I went to my local Pontiac dealer with a wad of combat pay in my pocket to buy a new GTO. The only color available was green (not the right one for a guy just getting out of the army). I ordered a brand new '70 with hidden headlights.
On Sept 16th, it came in and I had the first one in Minnesota. I was really disappointed that they left off the hidden headlight option. - they did reduce the price by $50 or $60 dollars though. - Bill -

I have one of these that has a build date of 02b it`s a convertible 4 speed red on red, It has the original build sheet and order form stating the voe option, Its inline next for resto!
