79 Radio Question
Hi, I'm not too familiar with the '79 nuances. I have an AM/FM/Cassette radio out of a '79 that I'd like to find out the interchange of. It has no reverse button. Is that a 1 year only radio? Is it a direct interchange between '78-'81? Unfortunately the part number label is gone.
Thanks! SD73 |

The 79 radio fits from 78 up to around 1988. So, yes, it is a direct fit and would be correct for 78-81. And it would fit in the later cars too.
I think the reverse feature didn't appear until after 81, probably around 83. The later radios with reverse can also be used in 78-81's. I have a couple of those with reverse, and I have an original 79. The 77 and older radios have a different size face, so the radio hole in the dash for the 77 and older cars is different from the 78-81's to accommodate the different radio size.

I had swapped out an AM only radio to an AM/FM Cassette radio back in 1980 for my 79 Formula. Direct fit and wiring plug too. No Reverse feature. Mine came out of an 80 Chevy pickup.
