Surface Rust Lacquer
Hi guys, I'm looking for advice on removing surface rust from lacquer paint from a trunk lid.
What is the gentlest method of removing the rust and bringing the existing paint some life? Thanks for sharing your ideas and experiences.

I have heard of people washing the part with CLR (bathroom cleaner stuff) and the results looked good.
Depending on the severity- you may be able to use a polish. I have been using dish soap and a very fine scotch brite pad - like the kind you get at the grocery store. Start with the blue ones then go to yellow/green if you need it. Be careful as it will certainly take paint off. After the scotch brite I buffit with a light compound, then polish and finally wax. Here are some pics of my 60 wagon before and after. Let me know if you want to know what products I used. |

Thanks, what you did makes sense because the dishwashing liquid will be gentle on the remaining paint. The CLR scares me a little bit. Everytime I see that beautiful Safari wagon I get a big smile. What a nice ride! Thanks for your help.

If you don't want to do the CLR.
The Works bowl cleaner with a white scrub pad dissolves it without touching the paint. I have used it on my white original paint GTO
