Default Old drag cars and racers - Post'em if you got'em

It's always cool to see the cars back in the day. There was something cool about the cars and the drivers. If you have any well known cars/racer great ! If you have any pictures of your local guys doing their thing in the 50/60/70's even better ! ..I'd like to see older pictures of some of this forum's members too.

My brothers car from the late 70's, Would bolt on a set of steels w/slicks to race on the weekends, seen lots of street racing. Total different stance then what we see now. The (Hill racing) setup was the hot ticket then. Or thats what he called it.
4.56's M-21 built 389. Was the hottest thing in town for that time period. He claims that he dipped into the 11's. Man how things have changed.

JKrull66 - I still like that look (don't tell anyone!) With 4.56's that car must have been a launching MF !

I have a few dozen of the fastest Pontiacs of the 50's-70's on my History page on my site if interested. Primarily dragsters, funny cars and stock cars, more to be added.

There was a website devoted to this old track but the link appears to be defunct now. http://www.sgfdrag-o-way.com/

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have pictures and/or remember a Montreoux (light silverish) Blue 67 GTO from the Hamburg NY area from 67-70? The car looks (due to trimmed inner wheelwells) to have had Hedman Hustler headers (or similar) and supposedly had 4:30 gears (or so) at the time. I inherited the car from my father (who was the sixth owner) but the original owner passed away in the early 80s. I think it would be cool to find a picture of it or something, if possible. Thank You-Jesse

Here's a few shots of a Pontiac powered rail driven by Johnny Abbott in the 63/65 time frame, don't remember if this car has been disscussed here before. BTW a friend of mine has the rolling chassis of this car, and it's for sale, PM me for contact info.

Here's a few:

The Corvair has 4 one bbls carbs on it; the GTO is (of course) a Tripower:

The Lemans is a 421 engineering "mule" from General Motors:

This is the only pic I have been able to find of this car: it's a 421 Cat with the aluminum package and Bobcat appearance package:

Our "storage technique" for valuable cars:

From 1969:

Sometimes it does rain in Michigan; "Lapeer International Dragway" circa 1968/1969. It hasn't changed a bit in 40 years:

Default Great racing history site

http://www.coloradoracingmemories.com/ There are tons of memories on this site. Lots of pictures back to the 30s even. It has a roundy rounds and drag racing cars. Just go there and check it out. It is worth it-believe me.

There was an old magazine article from the mid-60's that featured a "build up" on an early style funny car (when they still had steel bodies, left hand drive, and altered wheelbases). I can't remember if it was the Gay Infinity GTO or Swiatek's Grey Ghost GTO (I'll bet Steve rememebrs). Anyone remember what magazine this was in? I'd like to find myself a copy. I think some have actually posted scans of this article, as I've seen it on the 'net, but I can't find it now.
