STXJudge,
Any chance you can post a pic of your car. I just had my limelight green car shot and the color came a bit brighter and a little more green than the original limelight. It sounds like your car may be close. The new color is in the same family as limelight, it just POPS a little bit more when you see it. It would not be noticed by a non-pontiac guy but an Indianhead would definitely notice it. |

My '67 was painted in Mayfair Maize with a black Vinyl roof/interior(Body paint code 1-2).
As far as I have seen the car was painted that way from the factory. I also found when cleaning the dirt and such off the firewall that someone had written in white crayon the word "SPEC". I assume it is because of the paint as there isn't anything else really special about the car. I'm leaving it in the same color. I really like that color combination.

My 68 convertible is resale red. I'm thinkin' it will go back to the original Springmist Green. I saw enough under the interior to know I can live with that color.

You can never see enough red (and chrome) muscle cars.
Just paint your car the color YOU like and not what anybody else thinks it should be painted. |

Didn't even think twice about changing the color. Of course how can you go wrong with a regimental red convertable.

My '67 was originally Silver Glaze. It was already repainted Regimental Red when I bought it. Never liked the '67 silver anyways. Regimental works for me. I think if I ever wanted to go Concourse with it, I'd rather change the data plate from P to R than paint it Silver Glaze.

On the For Sale cars - If the restoration has been done with the intent to sell, does anyone ever consider leaving the car in primer? Would this make it more appealing to a potential buyer to bring it to the color of their choice?

Mine was born castillain bronze and the repaint is castillain bronze. Many have said it will sell better ( if I wanted to sell) if it was a red, blue, yellow, etc. Fast car looking colors.
I like the fact that it is different. Many average John Q Public passerby’s like the color. I think they have all seen enough Red. Mine is not totally original, but very close, so the originality of the paint and interior combination is a plus, for me anyway. |

My '67 was originally Linden Green w black top and interior. It's now white (professionally done in the 80's). I'm doing a complete body-off (not $how, but nice Sunday driver) and plan on going Plum Mist with parchment inside and on top.

In my opinion I would not paint your 65 montero red. There are way to many GTO's out there painted that color that started out a different color. It's a great color just overdone. I think the gold is nice, but if you don't like it then pick another color from the 65 color chart. Personally on a 65 GTO I like colors in the blue family(Bluemist Slate, Nightwatch Blue and Blue Charcoal).

My 66 Reef Turquiose GTO with matching interior is the original color and the ORIGINAL paint, interior, chrome and glass (except the w/shield).
If I were to paint it, I would shoot it the same color as it represents the period look and is better than resale red, imho. Les

I keep swinging back and forth between an original color on my '70 'vert (Gold) or a sexy new car color that has gobs of pearl.
I'm going to go with the original gold color. I think that factory correct colors look "right" for the old cars. If there is going to be some customizing, other than the drivetrain, then you would want a snazzier color.

Unless you are trying to do a 100% restore as it was originally, you should go with a color you like. I comes down to, are you doing this project for you to enjoy for the long term or are you trying to simply getting it ready to sell to someone else? If that's what you're doing, then either go with original color or resale red!

My 68 was Solar Red from the factory. I painted it 68 Maroon. I like the color better and so do most people I come in contact with. I'm restoring a 67 Convertable now. It was Tyrol Blue with a white top and Black interior. I'm keeping the original colors for the exterior and top but I'm putting Parchment interior.
Many people belive that changing the colors hurts the value but I have not seen this. I have seen many color change cars sell faster and for more money than original color cars.

My 69 GTO was originally limelite green w/ dark greeen vinyl top and dark green interior. When I bought it was painted red w/ the original vinyl top and a black interior. I plan on painting it limelite green without the vinyl top and black interior. Funny thing is I never realized the interior was suppose to be green untill one day I was replacing the turn signal switch and noticed the column and steering wheel were dark green.
