Default Bullet HR Cams

I just got off the phone with Bullet cams. I was inquiring about a custom HR cam, using some of the lobes on their master lobe list.

He said their price for a Pontiac HR cam is $693 !

Considering the current price of Pontiac HR cams from other sources, I consider this price totally ridiculous.

So, I'll no longer be recommending Bullet, for Pontiac street cams.

Everything is getting more expensive. If they haven't yet other cam companies will follow suit soon.

That is hard to believe! I haven't bought a Pontiac HR from them in awhile, and I get a bit of a price break, but that would be an enormous price increase!

I did TRY to get a Pontiac HR cam ground about 18 months ago or so, and both Comp and Bullet were out of cores and did not know when they would get any. It MAY be that the supply of cores for Pontiacs is drying up.

I know when I built my 409 motor a few years ago Bullet was the only one with "normal" not 4/7 swap cores for them. So cores sure could be the deal. I know my 409 SR was not that high then.

Maybe you requested cam specs that would require a full round cam core to grind it. That seems really high, but full round cores are really high but you can grind any firing order or cam specs on one. Regular cam cores are only good for cams within a certain range for the given core.

Everything does need to creep up in price with the cost of steel and just plain inflation costs. My custom HYD roller last yr from comp was pushing the 600 mark. Just happy it works well...
I cant question manufacturing costs after talking to guys i know in various facilities. Everyone needs to eat..

Just for information purposes. I spoke to Bullet yesterday about a cam I needed. They had ONE round billet core available only. Approximately 12 weeks to get some more. So cores for cams needing round billets will be held up for awhile. Same deal with LSM who makes cores for many of the cam companies. No round billet Pontiac cores available. Same 12 week lead time. The single Bullet core is available.

About 8 months ago i heard this was going to be an issue with bullet. Cores are low. Supply and demand I guess.

Mike Jones quoted me $530 for a solid roller with 4-7 swap, FYI.

Default Bullet Hydraulic Roller Cam

Year ago (2/13/18) paid for custom hydraulic roller cam that I had ordered at Bullet that was ready to ship along with hydraulic roller lifters, springs, retainers and locks $1,147.50 shipping included. Cam alone was $466.67. Only disappointment was that pressed on cast iron distributor gear wasn't available on available cam core. Best customer service from Tim Goolsby I've ever experienced from any vendor.

I haven't paid less than $700 for my last 3 cams (special grinds on round cores) so to me anything less seems like a good price.

I just checked with my rep at Comp Cams. He says they have Pontiac cores in stock. I'm not sure what they charge when dealing direct to the public, but it will be WAY less than $693! I can design a custom cam and have it delivered to you for over $200 less than that.

This was a couple years ago, but the custom comp HR that Jeff Kauffman spec'd for my engine came in at 360ish.

As far as I know they have std pontiac billets avail. Its 4-7 like stuff that is not always stocked.I think if you know your lobe numbers and what you want it can be ordered from even Summit.Ask for Scott Esterly if you do,he a pontiac guy.I just ordered my ARP head studs from him.Tom

I never even told the guy at Bullet the specs I was interested in. He said that was the price for a Pontiac HR cam.

Unless the current prices are wrong, Butler sells several different CC Pontiac HR cams for about $400 plus shipping.

https://butlerperformance.com/c-1272...om-grinds.html

Same price for Lunati Voodoo HR cams.

https://butlerperformance.com/c-1234...ller-cams.html

KRE shows their HR cams for $395 plus shipping.

http://www.krepower.com/Pontiac%20Ca...nd%20Parts.htm

SD still shows about $400 plus shipping for their CC HR cams.

http://www.sdperformance.com/listPro...p?categoryID=2

Lunati shows $425 for their Voodoo HR cams, direct.

http://www.lunatipower.com/ProductGr...?id=289&cid=75

Summit still shows Pontiac HR cams. Some are under $400. All are under $500 shipped. But, obviously, if the cam grinder has no Pontiac cores, the price don't matter.

https://www.summitracing.com/search/...rder=Ascending

Sandoval sells 'em for $425-$459 plus shipping.

https://www.sandovalperformance.com/camshafts

CP shows Howards 4/7 swap custom grinds for $390 shipped.

A lot of companies raised prices when the tariffs were enacted and steel prices spiked overnight. Thing is steel prices have dropped to pre tariff levels but do you think anyone will lower the price of their products?

Any roller in the $400-$600 range doesn't seem that bad to me. We've been running retro-fit rollers for more than 20 years in various engines and I really don't remember a time the cam itself was any cheaper than that.
