Front Bumper Removal
Hi Guys,
I started tearing into my 69 GTO with hideaways to replace the front end harness and one parking light housing. I got the grills out, hideaway doors off and the valance removed. It seems that the front end harness is behind the hideaways/bumper and almost impossible to get to without removing the endura bumper. My questions is can it be as easy as just removing the 4 bumper bolts ? If I remeber correctly from the original resto, all the hideaway stuff bolts to the bumper and then the bumper/lights are installed as a unit. Thanks |

correct
You are correct. You should be able to remove the four bolts that mount the bumper to the frame (2 on each frame rail), and the bumper will come off.... hidaways and all.

make sure you pull the valence off first.

I just discovered this thread. Unbolting the bumper brackets and removing the valence panel
to remove the bumper is not the way to do this job. It is far far easier to remove the grills, then remove the headlamp door pivot bars and brackets by removing the high beam headlamp bulbs to gain access to the two bolts that hold the pivot bar to the headlamp doors, then unplug the vacuum hoses from the actuators and remove the six bolts that bolt the bumper to the bumper brackets, pull the bumper out 6 inches then unplug the two low beam headlamp wiring connectors and remove the bumper. The beauty of this is you don't have to fight getting the bumper brackets adjusted correctly to get the bumper lined up, you just stick it back on and install the six bolts....wham bam. It takes four times longer and two assistants to do the job the hard way. Doing it my way you don't have to remove the front valence or even touch it,and you can do the job all by yourself no cussing and no helpers needed.
