Can anybody decode this DOT date code on a tire?
I thought the DOT code was the last four digits. The first two are the week of manufacture, the last two are the year.
This doesn't look right. Did the date codes change recently? Mike |

That isn't the DOT number you are looking for......look on the other side of
the tire for the number you need....first two digits of the last four will be the week....last two the year. Also the number will be right next to the bead of the tire, not way out on the sidewall. |

There will be 4 Numerals after the DOT, as mentioned by Mike.
IF, there are only 3 numerals, this means the tire was made before January first, 2000. A very old tire........

And If it still holds true like in years past, the date code will be imprinted, rather than raised characters. Typically the imprint appears to be in an oval space.

I'm glad to see there are some tire experts here. I have what I believe is an original F70-14 Firestone Super Sports Wide Oval redline tire from my 67 GTO. It has no DOT date code other than a serial number V000492R. My question is with regards to the location of the redline on the sidewall. It appears to be much closer to the tread than any of the reproductions I've seen. Coker's, for example, have the redline closer the wheel. Were there any variations of the redline location over the years? If so, can the location help narrow the manufacturing date?

Wow... I don't recall ever seeing a redline out that far, nor white, blue or gold stripes either.

Here's my original spare out of a '67 GTO. '66 date code. The tire with the outboard redline looks like a recap to me. This one is a Uniroyal Tiger Paw.

Thanks but my tire had no "DOT" embossed or raised lettering, nor has 10 digits in the serial number as mandated by the DOT in 1971, indicating that it was manufactured prior to 1971. As I look at the redline position, I'm reminded of a tire slogan that said something to the effect, " if it were any closer to the road, it would be a white line." Anyone know which brand had that slogan? It certainly would fit with my redline position.

I don't recall seeing that interior on pic #2 offered on any sales material.

Thank you everyone. Based on the print ads and some you tube videos of Firestone TV commercials, the stripe is indeed closer to the tread in 1967.

the redline and whiteline wide ovals only had the stripe that far out
for about 18 months..........in my opinion they stopped putting the stripes that far out due to complaints about curb damage. |

Also if you look the dot date is a removable insert in the mold for changing the date code. All the pictures except the op’s original picture is a insert.
