69 Firebird makeover
I decided to give the bird a makeover to freshen it up a bit, lots of surprises after stripping it. Both quarters were replaced with skins. I'm replacing door skins and replacing the hood. The rear body panel is a bit of a mess.

I've been using Hi Tech 7800 surface cleaner. Its not like a final wash, gives you a little bit of time to wipe off before it dries.

Finally have the primer on the quarters , next project is the rear body panel. I was going to just do the bottom section but have decided to do the complete panel.

Looks like whoever did the quarters did a good job.

I had to fix what i had, after i ground everything down i decided i would use them . I thought the patch panels would be a good way to fix them. Ames was right, " use only as a last resort".

Welds look like they puckered the panels a little but not horrible. That could be worked some so you can use much less filler.

Test fitted the panel today, needs some tweaking along the lower quarters. Fits nice on the upper quarters.

I know that I would be pretty happy with that weld seam. Just needs a skim coat...

Been working on the fender alignment, I'm not satisfied with the way it coming out. What do you guys think? I also installed the new hood, fit is ok , not great but what I expected from an aftermarket piece.

I have the old door skin off, have to do a little bit of welding to the edges but its not bad, the new skin fit good from what I could see.

New door skin fits pretty good to the rear quarter but not so good to the fender. The fender was patched up so I'll have to give that some attention.
