I have a '66 lemans and would like to put rally IIs on the car. I'm curious about how wide a tire I can put on an 8" rim (for the back tires) without rubbing or having to jack the car up. I've heard of some people with 255s, but can I go larger without it looking/performing bad?

ive seen 265/50/15 on a 67 gto with 4.5 back tight though rubbes with alot of people in the car

Don't know if it'll help you, but we were told 245x60 on a 15x8" Rally I with 4.5" BS was the max that would fit on our '65.

I've got 285/70's on a 15x8 and they fit comfy, also run a 29x 9" slick, but it's tight, rubs on the turn around.

Although you can put a 285/70 on a 8" wide rim its probably a bad idea, especially on a street car.

I have 235x60 on 8" rally's on my 78 GP. It is tight but it does not rub anywhere or at anytime

The thing to remember is that the treadwidth of a tire should be no greater or less than 1.5" from the rim width. So an 8" rim should have a tire with a treadwidth no larger than 9.5" to be safe on the road.--Ron
