i cant seem to get the needles into the holes at the bottom of carb base, and if i do they spring back up,(there are springs inside the parts) how do i get theses to stay in, so i can put the top of the carb together

Did you try inserting the vacuum piston with needles in first, and then put the gasket on? That way the gasket won't be in your way.

I am in no way an expert but I have been inside my carbs several times and this is the one peice that can really burn you. I put this peice in first. Because the plastic retaining ring rarly is tight enough to hold the unit in against the spring pressure, I gently hold down the peice with one hand and carefully slide the gasket into place. For me, this is how I worked it next. I found a thin peice of stiff metal, laid it accross the gasket and taped it down to the ouside of the body to hold eveything in place, making sude it wasn't in the way of anything. I then dropped the top of the carb on and went it fits into place, I slid the metal out. I'm sure people that do this all the time would have a better idea, but this works for me every time. Be very carefull with the thin brass rods. I was told that they are hard to find and expensive if you can.

It looks like you have the gasket over the power piston correctly. But you have to insert that little plastic collar into the top of the power piston well first. It snaps in there. It may be a bit tricky to do, usually you can sorta press it in there with the help of the flat section of a regular screwdriver blade. That little collar has to seat evenly and flat in the top of the power piston well. The power piston should be able to move up and down freely without popping out of that little well.
Once you get that little collar seated in the well and the power piston stays put, then slide that gasket under the top of the power piston assembly. It looks like you have two power pistons attached to the gasket in that pic, you only need one. Just be careful when you feed those metering rods into the jets. |
