Someone put a flyer in my car at a show Sat. for a new rust remover. It is from a company called ULTRA ONE they are in New Jersey, and is called SAFEST RUST REMOVER.COM from the pictures that they show this stuff really works. Zero rust sell it in bags, I don't know if that's what he's talking about Zerorust.com $43.50 for a 5 lb bag. Wonder if you can use tap water though.

I'll mix some up first chance I get, I was going to build a tank to do doors and fenders and other large parts 5 gallon of powder does a 175 gallon tank of water, ZEP doesn't sell anything smaller than 5 gallon bucket and it has to be truck shipped because of chemical status

I have that question too. Is it better to sandblast under a car to get floorpans and frame or could u mix up some of these various solutions and spray them on the underside? Cory

Ok, I dip a piece of rusted metal in the solution. I did not do the recommended pre-cleaning. I was wondering how it would do. The part was let to sit over night since it was pitted. In the morning most of the rust was removed. However the solution turned black. The instructions said this was normal if not pre cleaned. I cleaned the part with some of their degreaser. I again let the part soak over night. It seams to have removed most of the rust now. I want to post pics of the part. I just need someone to tell me how. I am also dipping a piece of rusted trim as I am typing this. It is not pitted like the last piece. As of now I am only fairly satisfied with the results. But I did not clean the part prior, so I am sure that had a major affect on it.

You need to neutralize it with water after you're done dipping.

Naval jelly is another form of phosphoric acid in a jelly carrier so that you can apply it to vertical surfaces. Personally, I would sand blast an exterior panel like that.

Another hint on the dipping, periodically take the part out and brush the rust off with a stiff bristle brush. This will quicken the process.

Eastwood sells a product that is called Oxy-Solve. I used that when I was doing my 64. Eats rust way and leaves a zinc coating over it.

Banshee has the best idea. PPG or Dupont metal cleaners are basically phosphoric acid. For a lot less, you can buy a phosphoric acid based tile cleaner or floor etcher at the home store.

Hydrochloric attacks the good metal and can really do some damage if you leave your stuff in too long. It will also do a number on high carbon steels or spring steel.

I posted here to see if anyone has had first hand experience with this product. Most of the products that I have seen have been rust converters, not rust removers. I have tried to use converters in the past and none of them worked to my satisfaction.

These all sound like variations of "Muriatic Acid" & "Phosphoric Acid" both of which I bought @ Homer D Poes place for less than $10 bucks a gal. I know they do require more care and precautions, but I belive that the end results both cost & physical outweigh the extra care required, IMHO , JF

The part looks pretty clean - did it remove all of the rust? Also - if you've tried Eastwood's oxysolve - how would you compare the two - is one better than the other?

I would use a lid. I found no need for ventilation because it doesn't fizz or bubble like a harsher acid. The lid kept the smell down in the old lady's laundry room (I wanted a floor drain in case of accident and that is the only room with one).

Using a 21 gallon tub with lid I mixed in two gallon of the "stuff" and then 8 gallons of tap water. I have been soaking an OHC intake manifold and half of an OHC exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold rust is about half way chewed off! Wow. I left mine in the driveway. The way that stuff stinks ~ ain't nobody gonna touch it LOL.

The rust seemed to be completely removed. I have used the oxysolve. It seemed to work quicker. I liked the oxysolve better. I just dont know if the oxysolve is as safe a product. By that I mean, will it affect paint, gaskets, or seals.
