Hi,

Has anyone had a water leak that caused a puddle on the front passenger side floor? I need a few clues on where to start looking (common places for leaks). 1972 LeMans sport Convertible

I am sure its water. Only happens when the car sits in the rain. I replaced the heater core, also.

The windshield channel looks ok. Cannot see any holes in the windshield wiper area. Fender drain holes are clear.

I don't have a GTO or LeMans YET! but I have had the exact same thing from a Jeep Cherokee. It would only occurr if it is rained on for a lont time, overnite for example and there was a lot of humidity and condensation. It would also do it if it snowed and again humidity/condensation....

It took me quite some time to figure out, I tore into the engine bay checking the blower motor and any seals on the firewall. I checked the windshield seal, I checked EVERYTHING! I even called Chrysler who was of no help.

I found the issue in the A/C system drain. Apparently there is some sort of tray the collects the drip-off condensation from the evaporator core I beleive... Anyhow it was clogged and all the condensation would fill the tray shortly after as I started the engine, and when I started to move it was a small stream of water running down off my blower motor housing and into the passenger floor then it was done (for the day). The next rain storm, same thing. Now the drain tube came through the firewall near the blower motor under a canister. I blew compressed air in it, you could hear it blowing out into the passenger compartment area. I havn't had trouble since.

That was a Jeep, but it could be rather universal issue, I talked to a reputable repair shop here locally, (Smith Garage) They said they have seen this on about everything with A/C. It may help you with your issue.

When do you get water in the car? After a short rain, long rain or just washing it with a hose? If it's after a long rain it won't be easy to find. If it gets wet after a short rain or a car wash then it should be easier. Try this if it's after a short period of time. Hold a hose in one area and move it around until water starts to come in. Start at the lowest point, go slowly and work your way up higher. A trick that some shops use is soapy water. Roll up all the windows and tape off your quarter panel vents (if you have them). Put the blower motor on high speed. This will pressurize the interior of the car. Then pour soapy water around any suspected area and watch for bubbles.

Two thoughts: Remove the Stainless trim panel from the base of the windshield and carefully examine the bottom area of the windshield.

Also, there is a rubber boot that protects the wiring from the body to the door. Mine were installed without any attachment screws.

Check the seal behind the kick panel around the vent.

My 71 lemans sport has a water leak on the drivers side.I removed the cowl vents and set a trouble light down by the wiper transmission,then went inside and looked up under dash to find the leak.The panel under the vents has a lot of little rust pin holes in it.I still havent figured out how i'm gonna fix that one.

You sure it's water and not anti freeze? A leaky heater core will leave a puddle there.
