|
Can anybody tell me what the minimum clearance height for one of these contraptions are? None of the manufactures list a minium or maximum height just poundage. My garage ceiling height is only 8'10". Will I be able to use one?

Sorry to take so long on the mesurements. With my body set so that it can be turned completely over, the maximum height is 7'3". I could raise it another 9", but I don't know why you would want to. I ordered my rotisserie with add on neumatic casters so I can run it outside if necessary. That adds about 2" inches to the height. The 7'3" is with those casters on. I got my rotisserie from Carol Custom Welding in Indiana, it's very strong and very well built. Hope this helps. Donnie |

I just read an article in Performace Pontiac how someone bought (2) engine stands, added to the middle and made a rotisserie for about $300.

The height of the rotisserie alone is about four to four and a half feet. The maximum hieght you would have is when your body is rotated ninety degrees from normal and that should be less than your ceiling height. I have my 65' on my rotisserie now, I could get accurate measurments if you need them. Donnie

I measured my '70 the other day and came up with 40" from the center to the widest point, plus a little fudge factor to keep my BP down.
You gotta add probably at least another 12-20" to that in order to account for the mechanism of the rotisserie. I'm planning on the accessible systems 1500 or 2000# unit. I'm planning on optioning the adjustable height and the pneumatic tires. 68', here,s a shot of my homebuilt rotis'.
The side of the car ("B" body) is 7'4" from the ground when rotated vertical. 8' 10 should be plenty of room for a factory built adjustable unit. A Homebuilt can be done for less, but imop it's not worth it at those factory prices. I lucked out, got all my material for free!

Matt that was the one I was looking at to. I'm worried about when you would roll the car on it's side. I don't know if the top of my door would hit when rolled.I don't think that it would but,I want to be sure before I bought one.Thanks, Tony

I would`nt want to put my car on that, the wheelbase would be too narrow at the ends not to mention the attaching arms being too narrow, maybe if your going to put a pinto or vega,small toyota or the like on it!( like to see a pict of that!) You can`t beat the price these guys are selling those for!

Tony, I was planning on building my own for cheap, until I priced steel.. Sumbeeotch!!!
I figured around $550 for just the steel, add $120 for the hydraulics, $100 for the wheels, add in the time and you're pretty close to what those cost. In retrospect, I might go with the fixed unit with adjustable height and add my own wheels. The difference is around $250. I can do good wheels for no more than $100

Thanks for the info this helps a lot. I might try to build one my self if I can scrounge up the steel. I've got a friend who owes me a favor hopefully he'll come through. If not I'll be buying one. Thanks again Tony
