i checked all the wiring for my convertible top through to the firewall and got lost in spaghetti,zero voltage to motor,switch and connection under dash..the scematics dont have the placement for the convertible top fuse,any idea where it is?..also do you know what type hydraulic fluid is used for the conv. top pistons???.......thanx

Hope that this helps! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Buzzjoe, is exactly right. Its a independant harness, with no fuse, just the auto breaker. I think the wires are red & green? Should be pretty noticable. I have mine in a box right now, but I remember it coming out as a seperate harness, but it was run under the carpet with the tail light harness.

sorry can't help with elect. problem, but i used type "A" trans fluid in my top and it works fine

I just double checked the wiring diagrams and mine is correct. The top switch feed wire is supposed to plug into the fuse block accessory spade connector, and the power comes through a 40 amp plug in circuit breaker in the upper left corner of the fuses.

I am trouble shooting my 68 GTO Conv. right now as well. I had a hydrolic leak though not really a wiring problem. What I have found is that there is a separate harness for the switch and top. They are red and green wires according to the manual and they are much larger than the std wire, my guess is 12 guage or so. My harness runs from the fuse block accessory spade to the switch. The two wires out of the switch run into the harness passage to the rear of the car and pop out in the trunk. When you turn the switch either up or down each wire in the trunk should have power. Sound like you have checked the switch, but most problems are in the switch. If not look for an in line fuse under the back seat or under the conv. top well, maybe someone at one time added a fuse to the system??

thanx for the help,found the connection,dissasembled motor/pump and it was full o crud..if anyone does the same,be sure to clean the contacts on what looks like a set of points,will save you from taking it apart a second time

My 68 had the top connected to a power port (spade terminal) on the fuse block and a 30 AMP plug in circuit breaker in place of the fuse.
I have seen some that were wired to the main power wire of the horn relay also. I believe that being wired into the fuse block is correct. |

i'm pretty sure the conv't top uses a relay.
