Craig Hendrickson of the old HO Racing Specialties,is going to document a project using the TurboFORCE setup that HO Racing used to sell. Craig and John Clegg are both going to use the setup and also try the NEW Edelbrock Fuel Injection for Pontiacs with this setup!

I practically have everything now that i need thoe LOL just need a different turbo.
Ohh why could no one seem to find pictures of this setup when i was asking for it months ago LOL.
I would definatley be up for a setup.

Craig, welcome to the PY board, your knowledge of the Pontiac engine is second to none. I started buying parts from you and Kern back in late 1973 when all you sold were carb and ign kits. I continued to buy parts from H/O Racing thru the 70's 80's 90's and i just ordered 4 of the oil galley plug kits from Ken Crocie last week, H/O part # HW-51, one plug drilled with the famous .030 hole. I also have all the high output newsletters from August 1974 thru the last issue July 1979. Yourself and Kern got me started with the Pontiacs with all the great reading material and parts that you sold to me over the years. In 1972 you were running that 65 Tempest with the 326" engine with a tunnel ram and dual quads that ran in the mid 11's. That engine was ahead of it's time. Yourself, Kern, and Ken Crocie are all fine people.

If anybody is interested, I have one of these HO Racing turbo kits that I would sell. I don't have the turbo itself, But I have most everything else, the bonnet, the exhaust, the timing cover, and a few other pieces.

quote:
I'm Very interested in a Blow thru Holley system with a slightly larger turbo? Possible?

Larger turbo for sure. However, the original design air pressure bonnet enveloped the QJet carburetor, see these:

early prototype bonnet, bottom view

production bonnet installed, side view

The Holley fuel bowls interfere with the bonnet. Maybe an Edelbrock Performer (AFB) would fit.

There are several "pressure hats" commercially available that fit the Holley because they are perched on top; I'm sure you've seen them. However, I believe that these "top hats" leave a lot to be desired performance wise. The H-O pressure bonnet had several advanced aerodynamic features which significantly improved performance.

An alternative would be to enclose the Holley with a pressure box. Commercial versions of these are also available, but their performance again may leave something to be desired. An interesting varient is RTech's combination pressure box and intercooler. This was debuted at last month's SEMA show:

RTech SuperCooler with sideways Holley

last time I saw the son's car it was running low 10s with a D port motor. Not sure but think it was a 400.

dad's car is the the SS/GT classes and runs the "Pontiac" BBC motor.

Where will this be available? I remember when they used to sell those kits. I've often thought about them, and where they all went. I also wonder how many kits were made/sold.

Welcome Craig,

All of my turbo experience is with motorcycles, but I am excited that you may produce a blow-thru system utilizing the new Edlebrock EFI. I want one! Question: Do you plan to include some kind of detonation/ignition retard or water/alcohol injection as part of the kit? And what compression ratios do you recommend for planned boost levels. Just thinking ahead.

That's what I was afraid of. I already have a very nice blow thru Holley from Tom Vaught. But I could adapt a box for a holley.
I'm interested in the rest of the package though. Thanks!

Regarding the "detonation/ignition retard or water/alcohol injection": Just today, another Pontiac fanatic has turned me on to the MSD6BTM (check it out). That totally solves the retard problem. Water injection is a crutch for poor gas or a mis-tuned sytem. With EFI, you probably won't need it.

Regarding compression ratio. 7.0 - 8.4 just like they came stock in 1971+. The CR vs boost trade-off is always in favor of boost.

P.S. I like your signature "Better lucky than good". It's especially operative in Las Vegas where I used to live.

Craig H,
I haven't had the pleasure to meet you but, I did get to meet Kern a few times in the 70's. I own every copy of The High Output (sadly, it was in an issue of The High Output that I first read that the Pontiac V-8 was to be discontinued). I couldn't believe it, but it was true!. You helped motivate and to learn not to settle for second. I admired and appreciated your writing attitude and style back then not to mention its unparelled informative content. The High Output was "all meat and no BS" you know what I mean. You 2 guys were very influential/motivating to me and, I'm sure, countless others in the 70's. Best of luck to you with your turbo venture. I invite you to consider coming out to my Pontiac drag/show/parts event this April here in Phx. You can show off your deal to a REAL Pontiac crowd! When you get a minute, check out my web site. It's as hard core Real Pontiac as is possible. take care, Steve Barcak www.pontiacheaven.org

Craig's bonnet would receive some stiff competition from the CSU, Extreme Energy, and the
Gale Banks people.

Gale Banks will have his retro- Twin Turbo set-up
at PRI in a few days.

Is Craig or John C. bringing a Turbo-Force set-up
to PRI?
