just had my 69 gto re-wired and at the same time they replaced the temp. sending unit from the manifold. now my gauge shows my car over heating everytime i take her out. now first thing tells me it is the new unit or gauge in the dash. but how can i tell for sure what the temp really is? maybe the old stuff was wrong. thanks for the help guys.

well finally had a chance to check out the problem and it was either the sending unit itself or they tightened the old-new sensor down to much and was reading heat from the engine ...if that is even possible?anyway works great now no problems. thanks for the input

thanks mike for the reply. now for the 64,000 dollar question how can you tell the difference between the two? also the guage does go up like normal just keeps climbing to the end then burys the needle.

Sometimes I use a waterproof thermometer stuck in the radiator with the car idling--cap off. Use the same kind they stick in the roast beef at Hardees to check the temp. It's not a pressure tested deal, but gets you familiar where the car will operate. Once you establish it's under the boiling point, get one of those auxiliary gauges that's accurate enough to display the temp. If your first test says your under boil and the aux gauge hooked to your sendor says your way high just like your dash--it's probably the sender. If it's different than your dash guage, then you have to figure from there.

are you sure they put the right sending unit in ? the one for a light is different than the one for a guage. mike
