Anyone have an idea where I can find some good front fenders for a 72 GTO

Are the lemans fenders the same? I run across these sometimes. I know where a nice set of 68 lemans fenders are right now. I will check on some others tomorrow.

I can remember when I thought $500 for a NOS 72 GTO fender was expensive.

About ten years ago, I sold a 72 GTO and a 72 Lemans with GTO front end to a guy in IN. I also sold three hoods and six fenders for 71-72 to the same guy, all were excellent. The running GTO (orange w/white interior) was $2500 and was rust-free and the Lemans was around $1200. I think I only got about $1500 for all the extra sheet metal. I wish I still had all that sheet metal stashed in my basement.

If 70-75 Formula hoods ever become valuable, I've got the market cornered.

BTW, I have a steel 71-72 gto endura hood for sale if anyone's interested. It needs a little work as it was in an minor accident before, but it's been repaired a little via some welding and been bead blasted top and bottom and primered right away so there's no rust and no bondo in it. It's not a "mint" hood but could be worked with and comes with the scoop inserts. Looking for $200.00 out of it, if anyone's interested email me [email protected]

Early this year, I searched the entire country for six months. Found a front clip locally that had one halfway decent fender. Finally located a pair off of a car in Arizona that a guy was parting out. Not perfect, but really decent pieces. One even had the GM part number sticker still on the backside of it! Spent a ton of money on 'em and they need some work, but not rusty and nothing a decent body man can't easily take care of. Best other deal I found was a apir that had been pieced together from several fenders and the guy wanted $2,000.00 for them - NO THANKS.

My only advice would be to watch every place you can every day - that's how I lucked into mine. Best sources are here, Classical pontiac and E-bay.

I just got off the phone with Barry at Sonic Motors in Holly, Michigan, and he said that he has a LH 72 fender that is rust free. Price: $700. Based on the discussion above, don't walk to the phone, run!

The parts are out there, but you have to do a little work to find them.

I took a pair of solid 71 GTO fenders to Charlotte Autofair. They were priced at $750 for the pair. About a dozen people looked and tried to get them for $400 - 500, a number of people only wanted one fender. I held firm and brought them home. The interesting thing was that the best offer I had was from a Pontiac parts vendor.

I heard a couple of other vendors complain that they brought parts that are generally in demand, but people weren't buying.

I bought a pair of nearly perfect 72 fenders recently, but I had to pay $800 for the pair and drive close to eight hours round trip. The guy wasn't willing to shoot photos or ship, so I took a gamble.

I sold the pair of 72 LeMans fenders for oh say $50, mainly for the Yellow Marker lamps. Fenders had some metalwork below, yet were dead straight.

Buyer may sell em. afterall, he wanted the marker lamps.

$750-800? Geez, thats alot more than what I would have spent. I guess I got a deal then. I got a endura bumper, core support, GTO hood, fenders, valance panel, headlight buckets and trim, and brackets for $600.

I figure I had about $900 in the pair of fenders by the time I paid for gas in the Suburban to go get them. I also bought a pretty decent hood from a different guy in GA for $300. It was very straight and no rust.

Sometimes I'm amazed at what people are paying for some of the 71-72s. There was a rough 72 Lemans w/endura I ran into locally. Partially in primer, multiple colors over the years, bondo in the fenders, bottom of the quarters, in the hood, slightly bucked hood. Advertised for $4500 and sold for $4200. I wouldn't have even bothered to fix it, and the parts were marginal, I didn't even consider it a good car to part out.

I finally got my convertible. 72 Lemans Sport conv, Lucerne Blue with white/black interior, auto with no a/c, 350. Super solid body. Excellent donor for the 455HO car.

Good price on those '72 fenders! I paid $850.00 for mine. Luckily, a fellow from OK that Roger knows was buying some other parts off the same car, so he met the seller halfway and picked up my fenders for me then delivered 'em to Roger. I picked 'em up from Roger at the PSN's in Dallas last June. They were worth all the trouble, thank goodness!

Somebody makes a fiberglass 71-72 GTO hood, but not an original steel one. I haven't heard anything about anybody repop'ing the 71-72 GTO hood.

Good hoods are even more expensive than the fenders. Several years ago, I looked at a 72 Lemans conv w/endura that was for sale. The owner had paid $700 for a hood from one of the Pontiac parts vendors. This hood had small holes where a hood scoop had been attached to the hood. Other than that, it was a nice hood. That's kinda pricey, but they are hard to find.

I wouldn't be surprised if the parts vendors are a little hesitant to try tooling any more hoods. The 71-72 hood looks a lot tougher to tool than the 68-70 GTO hood, and I heard it took multiple tooling iterations to get that hood right.

I'm not sure if collector cars are selling very well at all right now, unless they are really desirable. I have a black 79 T/A T-top car with a bad motor and excellent body for $1200. It was advertised in Hemmings and PY and CP. Hardly any interest, but a year ago it would have sold quickly.

Aren’t the 71-72 GTO hoods available as “reproductions” from Year One?

You know, I was thinking of putting a 72 GTO front clip on my 70 Lemans. Not going to make it a clone, but really like the look of the 71-72 Endura bumpers. Guess I’ll reconsider the plan.

I saw a really nice 72 GTO in Hemmings about three months ago. It was a one-owner car loaded with a lot of options. Very nice, priced at $8,000, but it seemed no one was buying. Last I saw, the ad had changed to include “or best offer” after the price. Seems more people are interested in the fenders and hoods than the whole car.

Will 72 fenders be available as a reproduction item?

One of my favorite activities in the late 80's-mid 90's was buying & cutting up rusty in the 1/4's '71-72 T-41 LeMans. Call it forward thinking OR had to buy 'em & part 'em to keep the locals from building GTO clone "smash & bash" drivers out of 'em [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img]...both explanations fit.

Remember hauling a really nice '71 LeMans Sport T-41 fender to Pate in '87 or 88. Had probably $175 on it. Ron Johnson looked it over real close. He knew it was tough one, so did I, but it was going to be a tough ship back to MD. Ron passed, & I ended up hauling that fender home. Today the emblem holes have been welded up & that same fender is going on my Judge [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

Never regret keeping the nice stuff. If you stick to your guns & continually build the same era cars, you will need the parts.
