Hi all,
Needing help installing a turn signal switch on my 67 gto it does not have cruise or tilt and the shifter is on the floor. Am I going to have to pull the wheel off to install this new switch or is there any other way. I have noticed that the previous owner tried to pull the wheel because the nut is missing and all the threads on the steering shaft are stripped also. Also the switch I ordered though my local part store says it is for a 68 el camino. Did they give me the wrong switch or is this a cross reference. Any help would be appreciated, this is the first problem that I have came across with my goat that I have not been able to solve. Also replacing the steering column is an option but I would rather not for price issues. Thanks for your help

farmboy,
you need to beg, borrow, rent, steal or buy a steering wheel puller.they are cheap at advance auto parts.
pull the wheel off and the rest is simple.
chase the threads on the steering shaft and put a nut on there.
a steering wheel can come off and leave you with no steering.
when you unplug your old switch,under the dash, tie a string on it.it will be easier to fish the new switch wires back down the column.
make sure your wheel is straight before taking it off.

Thanks so much for your help, I hope it all works as easily as you described, just finished rebuilding the brakes tonight and the blinker switch is the last step so I can pass state inspection!! I also soaked the steering wheel joint with penetrating oil tonight so hopefully that rust thing will come off easy tommorow! Thanks again, I will send you a pic in a week or so when the goat is out and about!!
