What you see in this illustration is a fairly close rendition of what we can expect when the next-generation Pontiac GTO hits the market in 2008. We say “fairly close” because we’ve seen the super-secret spy photos upon which it is based, and the actual shots show a sleeker, wider, lower and, frankly, far more appealing car.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is General Motors’ Aussie division Holden reportedly may not start cranking out these future Goats until 2008, a full two years after production ceases on the 2006 Holden Monaro-based GTO.

One more tidbit: It’s not shown here, but we hear GM is considering doing this GTO as a four-door coupe, using rear-hinged rear-access doors without visible handles.

I actually like the new design. It takes alot more cues from the original GTO's from what I can tell. For me alot of my first post college car will depend on what the new Camaro looks like and if the GTO actually looks like what this photo is showing. I think GM is getting on the right track and listening to people finally.

I like the looks better than the 04-05 GTO. I think GM is heading in the right direction with the new old look. I hope this one ends up being built some day.

I like the rear panels on that Stanfield design, if they could work those into the design they might actually have something. 2008 is a long way away though. I thought you hated retro cues Mr. GTO!

I work in the collision dept for a pontiac dealership,I've worked on a few 04-06 GTO's.I've had to replace the 1/4 panels on these cars,when the 1/4 is off the car there is an actual door jamb in the rear behind the front door.As if there may had been a plan for a four door before. Also You can see where the fuel was at for the monero version. I'll post some pics...

No 2007 GTO? A four door GTO?....I guess I was wrong on that one also..NOT. I should have bet all the GM Monaro Glee Club owners a $100.00. I'd be rich.

There will be a 2007 GTO. There will NOT be a 2007 Monaro. The difference being the Monaro uses the LS1 and the GTO uses the LS2. Holden has a deal with HSV that for now they get exclusive rights to use the LS2. They cannot use the LS1 because it is too expensive to certify for the few monaros they sell in OZ and it doesnt pass for Europe.

Time will tell. Given the failure of the 04/05 and the Mitsubishi inspired renderings of the 08 I doubt we'll see an 07. If there is one it will be an option to another model such as the G6 or something really spiffy like that. It's too bad, I think this car could have been a success had it been named something other than a GTO. I actually saw a torrid red 04 the other day. It sounded good and actually didn't look that bad rumbling along 13th East through Sandy / Draper...The owner obviously knew enough to keep it clean and subtle: Plenty of tire, no p-diddy wheel treatment or geeky autorice package...it just didn't look like a GTO. I've seen 4 in this town: Red, Silver, Black and Yellow. I think they look best in red or black. Silver is just too generic and in yellow given the bulbous exterior of this car, it looks a giant beach ball. If some fatter meats could be tucked under the rear fenderwells, as in a pro-street look, the back end would look really bitc*in' sans spoiler. Hell, I might even buy one then.
