63 safari wagon
Almost done,got the alu 389 in,now need to put the 2-4 intake and carbs.Hope to have the SD 4 speed transaxle in by the POCI nationals.

Thanks for the pics of your 63 Safari. I have been wondering if I'll ever get going on doing mine. It's going to need alot of TLC but your Safari pics kinda rev me up to start doing more than just changing the wheel studs. Any other shots we can see? Here's a few of my over-my-head project.

finish it!You will like it.I have wanted one since I totaled my 62 tempest wagon 30 years ago.When this one came on ebay I sold my 63 lemans convert,took the motor out and saved it for the wagon.Will get better pics.Tom

I really want to and I think all the knowledge from the members here will really help. I just picked up the car recently and since I already have a 65 gto, I could n't resist buying the 63. I keep putting the Safari up on the hoist just so I can stare at the drive train. It is so different from what I got used to. Do many Safaris have a powered rear window? I can't tell from the pics if yours has it.

mine has the power window and it works.I have some xtra wagon stuff if you find you need some.Tom

Ok thanks, I'm finding that parts for the cars are scarce and not much aftermarket stuff avail. like body panels. I guess it's just a matter of looking harder and more often. When I got the car it was complete except radio and w/wiper motor gone.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, Tom. LOL. Again, looks fantastic. Seeing others making progress on their 63 wagons too got me all fired up, I guess. Anxious to see more.

I hope more people will do the wagons!There was a real nice "clone" of the Arni SD wagon at Norwalk.I just hope we can make the SD trans axle work in the car for a street car.Need to cut or relocate the fuel tank to clear the flywheel-clutch-hyd release mech.I have all the Xtra rear suspension out being powder coated so when its time will just drop the TQ tube back and intall the 4 speed auto.Tom

Is that a transaxle car or is it converted.
I got stuck at the office with at client that weekend and had to cancel. Seeing pictures like that, especially when I am about to start a similiar project on a coupe, still bums me out months later. Next year I will be back at Norwalk. I would love to say with my SD look-a-like but right now it is looking doubtful. I am just now ordering all of the suspension parts and will be starting the V8 engine fabrication installation this weekend.

Wow. Another nice Tempest wagon being butchered up for big tires.
Shame. By the way: since when did Tempest wagons begin being referred to as "Safaris?" Do these wagons have some sort of "Safari" badging on them? |

Tom S, you seem to have really stirred up the Safari Gang with the pics of that nice wagon. Our son is two & a half yrs. old. He loves Safaris too! But he's asking me to spend too much $ on the car. How can I tell his mom that I used his piggy bank money to revive the old 63? We are anxious to see more too!
