I have a 1973 firebird and looking for a am fm radio. My question is, do other pontiac radio with the flip dial work with the firebirde?

the firebird has a smaller dimension radio I believe. (distance between knobs) I know that the chevelles had similar looking radios to camaros, and they too had a wider knob stance.
A Am radio should be easy find on Ebay.
look for a FM one, then find the guy who sells the "rebuilt" ones, and sent him a message and ask for a AM one, I bet he has a few.
if no luck I can get one at a local yard but no guaratees on wheather it works.

I don't know about an AM/FM, but the AM/FM Stereo (red dot) radios are a lot. The 1970-77 Firebird radios should interchange (but there was a script change in the Delco trademark around 1976 or '77).

Here is a small portion of my friends Delco radio collection. I have about half dozen Delco radios plus two Firebird console 8-tracks and I thought I was bad!

the early radios had the "delco" in script lettering on the right hand side of the dial, then it went to block lettering & moved to the left side of the dial....

There are also two different style of script lettering. The earlier version was smaller. I'll have to see if I can get a picture.

Prices have really gone up on 70-77 Firebird radios. I bought all mine from around 2000-2002 and I don't think I payed more than $50. That includes an AM/FM Stereo. Now I'd have a hard time getting an AM radio for that!

Firebird radios were really fun to search for, in the past. You don't want to know how much someone paid for the '70 AM/FM stereo radio that was part of this collection (I wasn't even sure if it worked or not), even sold a '69 AM for a few dollars (but I wish it was todays dollars, man, are those things expensive today). All that is left are the '71, '72, '73 and '74 red-dot radios pictured (plus a '74 AM/FM w/console 8-track). The tags are color-coded for the year. Even still have a few 1968-72 LeMans/GTO AM radios laying around somewhere. The really hard things to have are the correct knobs w/inserts and springs (pictured somewhere on this site). I've been watching how the prices have risen on these and I've really been tempted to start selling them on eBay, but I'll be making sure they work for maximum profit. Anyway, I'm just too damn lazy, so they'll probably just sit gathering dust for a while longer.

Dennis, I really don't remember any size difference between the same written DELCOs, just the written/block difference.

Any idea what the proper part number would be for a 1972 am/fm? or was the same part number used over a number of years? Thanks, Steve

Product No. would be the same for different years, of the same radio type. Service Model No. is different, as it identifies the year in the breakdown. As well as the tags are color-coded. And, of course, the Serial No. is different for every unit.

I'm looking for a 70-73 AM/FM radio to for my bird. Don't care about Product No., Service Model No., or tags / color-codedness of them as long as it looks correct for that year. Any luck having one???
