No Brake lights or directionals
 The brake lights and turn signals on my 1966 GTO are not working, I have changed the fuses to no avail. I disconnected the plug to the brake light switch and lo and behold the turn signals and under dash courtesy light came on, when I reconnected the brake light switch, I lost everything again  I can't find any broken wires or loose grounds, any suggestions?

remove all the rear lamp sockets with the bulbs from the housings. reconnect brake light switch, do the other lights then work, if so, then go to each socket, one at a time, plug them into the housing, other lights work, then plug in the next one, when other lights don't work, that is the problem socket or bulb. Or if you removed all the rear sockets and other lights still don't work, then the problem is the wiring to the rear somewhere, maybe the ribbon harness or the directional wiring harness or switch.

My 66 GTO was converted to RHD many years back, but it uses the original steering column & I think the original column harness was used. The wiring for the turn signals forms part of the column harness. On my car, there is a semi circular plug/socket at the base of the column, with about 9 pins. I have had a couple of those pins dislodge when the plug & socket are pushed together, so you might want to check it out.

Check the turn signal switch as well, all power is directed thru it for your brake lights as well as turn signals.

This should probably go in the electrical forum . . . remember that these cars ground through the tail panel.

My first instinct is to agree with engineer on this one. If it were a loss of ground or bad harness, etc. it most likely would not clear up when you pulled one of the bulbs...possible but not likely. I'd say that one of the sockets is bad and needs to be isolated by trying them one by one.
The only way I see it being something other than the socket or bulb is if the harness has a short that's only in the circuit when the bulb is inserted into the socket. Long shot. Edit- Oops, I misread the original post. I thought it cleared up when you pulled one of the bulbs, not the brake light switch...Still, it's a logical start to pull the bulbs as described.
