so im starting my 66 gto convert.

i got a bare frame that has been powdercoated.

im basicly posting this to get suggestions of parts, brakes, and everything else to get the chassis rolling.

the car will be a cruiser. but i want it to handle. it will rarely be brought to the drag strip, so that isnt too much of a concern. i guess the word "G-Machine" comes to mind.

A lot of what you do depends on what you want. Originality a big concern? Speed? Etc.?

My one suggestion would be if you start taking it apart, go to The Container Store or someplace like that and get a bunch of zip-lock bags of various sizes. Set up a coding system and everytime you take bolts or nuts or screws or small parts off the car, put them in the bags, label the bags with a permanent marker, and log them in on your master sheets. That way when you go to put her back together you won't be wondering which fastener goes where.

Also, before you take a part off, take a bunch of digital pictures of the area where it goes so you'll remember how it is supposed to fit together. You'd be surprised at how much detail you forget.

Lastly, on some areas, like under the dash, for example, write down the order in which you take things apart. That way you'll know the best order in which to start putting them back together.

It's easy to tear one down, but getting it back together right is a tall order if you're not organized about it. We did one with coffee cans full of nuts and bolts, and we are doing another in a much more organized fashion. It makes a lot of difference, for sure.

There are many aftermarket kits to fill your needs.
Brake kits/ Line kits / Suspension & Rear kits, etc.
Just about anything you need to get back to a rolling chassies is out there.
Lots of stuff depends on the budget.

I'm doing the same with a 65 Ragtop now.... And am down to doing the frame..There are a multitude of ways to do a restoration I am goin by way of resto mod like another here who has a fantastic web site and he's a reg poster here 455Tri-Power

I have for my frame front disc brakes for stopping power, boxed rear control arms rear sway bar going all poly bushings heavy front sway bar... got a 12 bolt 3:73 gear posi for rear .. Just got my Tremec TKO600 5 speed which all reviews love... 455 EHeads So on so on...

So early you have to decide which way are you going stock resto mild mod or full resto mod.... I kinda decided to make mine enjoyable as much as possible to drive and race once a year...

know what you mean about what to get and what to do.
