Unhappy NEW CAP

THE NEW CAP ON THE HEI I JUST INSTALLED HAS NO #1 CYL MARK ON IT ALSO I JUST INSTALLED THE HEI INTO MY 71 ALLL THE PICTURES I HAVE THAT SHOW ROTATION DON'T SHOW WHICH IS #1 CYL. I KNOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO INSTALL DISTRIBUTOR 180 OUT . YES I BROUGHT #1 UP TO TOPDEAD CENTER. ROTOR BUG IS POINTING TO #2 CYL IS THIS CORRECT. AND CAN SOME ONE TELL ME WHIHC OF THE 8 HOLES IS #1 ON HEI. THKS MATTHEW

Well there is not a specific one that is number one. You can have any one be number one. So if you know which cylinder is on its compression stroke and at top dead center that you can line up the cap and rotor and spark plug wire, the catch is usually the vacuum pot(cannister) should be on a specific side and in the middle so you have room to turn the distributor for set up of the intitial.

Hope this makes sense....On most the cars I have had number one ends up being right at the firewall for everything to end up right.

Out of habit, and I think the way gm did it on 2nd gen TA's, I always put my number one against the firewall towards the drivers side. But, as mentioned, find one you like, put #1 on TDC at firing stroke, and take your pic if you like.
