Head Porting
So I finally got the heads I was wanting. Now I need to start thinking about what type of head work to get done to them. What should I be looking for when I go talk to a machine shop about getting work done to them, they are 670's. Everything is new on them plus they have never been cut on. My car is going to be mainly a street car for cruising and family outings with some trips to the track. Is there a minimum amount of work that I should get done to them? Bringing down the compression is another concern.

don't waste your time with local guys. send them dave at www.sdperformance.com to get them cnc'd and rebuilt

If you do a search you will find many threads with pics/mods for the 670 heads. I know i have a few pics up of my 670's from SD Performance.

670 Heads
The 670 head is a great head right out of the box. It really all depends on the type of driving you are looking for. I have two sets, one is race ported on my 65 GTO, the car has gone 10.87@124 MPH. I have a unported with newer valves installed on my 1967 Firebird street car that has gone 12.06@114mph. Just make sure the cam is set up to let the exhaust breath more. I have set up three other GTO"s with 670 heads for street cars and with little head work, they all scream.

I'd agree not everyone who owns a die grinder or die grinder and a flow bench is a cylinder head expert. If you are going local, I'd want to talk to those who had Pontiac heads ported by this guy.
Quite honestly CNC'ed heads probably will be beyond the scope of what you are needing. It don't take much work on 670 heads to get real respectable performance on the street. Keep in mind if you go to the max, your heads will only be about as good as E-heads out of the box. |

Agree on the 670 head.Flows well up to 500 lift.If you want more flow you need to rework chambers to open chamber, to pick up the higher lift #S.
