Default Fender Braces To Radiator Supports, Do They Help Any?

Do those fender braces to the radiator support help a chassis any or are they just a pretty decoration?

If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, they were added to comply with the 5 mph bumper standards imposed by the federal government in the 70's.

about 40# that's about the same time you see the firebirds use the small fender braces you will also notice the Camaros used conventional bumpers and in 74 they were made of aluminum and steel that is why they didn't use those big supports.

Default Aluminum fender brace supports

I should have another 10 sets of these in stock in a couple of weeks.
Price is $75 with free shipping. Includes zinc-plated flange head bolts and fender clip-nuts for hassle-free installation.
"Johnsma22" has a set on his car.

Default Front Bumper Weight...

1976 Firebird Trans Am,
Front bumper 70 lbs
Front bumper brackets 30 lbs
Grand total 100 lbs on the front end.

I don't know of anyone that makes a decent fiberglass front bumper for my 76 T/A. I would like to take some of that 100 lbs off the front end, if anyone knows of a decent glass bumper for a 76 please post. Thanks!

have not looked at a 76 in 20 years , but will the 77-78 bumper fit the 76? I think some one on this board made aluminum ones but would need a bumper cover
