Trying to weigh the advantages to justify the cost of purchasing an aluminum block vs IA 2. Current weight is rather heavy at 3580 lbs. with driver and taking 100 plus lbs. off to nose of a 72 Firebird would definetely be going in the right direction. Anyone running the KRE aluminum block? Did it spec out OK?

Before conjecture and such sets in what are your goals and hp/torque levels you want? What are your plans.

Dwight, you really need to check the archives to review what went down with KRE/K&M and the MR1 blocks. Given their poor track record of customer service, I think a person would have to be nuts to even consider spending money with them now, but that's just me. There are KRE loyalists out there (who have yet to be screwed) that feel otherwise. Talk to everyone and decide for yourself, but remember, just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's better..."penny wise - pound foolish".

What was the final diagnosis of Cooper's IAII aluminum block that grenaded a year ago? There are pages and pages on the KRE blocks destruction, but I never read the cause of that particular IAII to come apart. TIA

Only failure I'm aware of from Cooper in 2006 was at Norwalk, when he broke the front of the crank snout off the crankshaft. That's not the fault of the block, that's from overdriving a large roots blower. Hemi and BBC crank snouts are bigger than a Pontiac's and can handle it better.

OK, wrong Cooper (LOL). Actually, that failure was discussed on the board. The consensus was it being a result of standing it on the rear bumper too many times and starving the mains without pulling it apart for inspection. Tom Vaught weighed in on that one as well, do a search and you'll find it.

As for who builds it, that's up to him. But Ken's Speed and Machine in Brooksville Florida, Home of the Worlds fastest Black 76, stock suspension, Drag radials with Power windows, Trans Am, is as good as any builder out there!

No they're not. Nobody warranties any part that is specifically to be used in racing. Yes, there are vendors that will stand behind their product when a manufacturing defect arrises, and then there are those that tell their customers to pound sand.
