Default Flywheel resurfacing question...

I've got a Hayes billet steel flywheel that has been on about a year - put a "aftermarket" clutch/pressure plate on the car (69 gto, 474), at the same time.

Have been to the strip several times this year - and the clutch is the weak link, holding, etc.

Am going to upgrade to the Centerforce DF unit.

The flywheel has a little discoloration where the disc was - but no wear that I can feel with the finger.

Does it have to be resurfaced???? Seems unneccesary.

A 15 minute job for most machine shops, so why not.

you should as there is a little layer of resin glaze on there which will cause it to slip if it gets hot .

I used a 3M fine grit disc on a small 90 degree air grinder to knock the glaze off before I re-installed the HAYS flywheel back on my latest engine. Everything is working fine for me.

You've got it apart. you may as well have it done and see if there is any deformation. and get the glaze off. if you don't and have slippage or chattering you'll be beating your head against the wall.

Another vote to have it resurfaced. The few bucks you might save isn't worth the risk IMO.
