I wouldn't use either. I know that's not what you want to hear, but I wouldn't want to put the time and money in them just to worry about them down the road.

Get another core. They aren't hard to find.

Should have posted this when scrap was up! Seriously, I would not even run that block if it was original to my Judge, nor the head. As was already stated, cores are still cheap. Good luck.

Anything "can" be fixed; the question is whether it's worth the time, money, effort, and enthusiasm.
I don't like what I see in the photos; and I wouldn't use those parts as my first choice. On the other hand, the welded areas are not in heavily-stressed areas of the block. And the restrictors are a drill-bit away from being gone--or--effectively gone. In particular, after having a "Learning Experience" with some Oldsmobile heads, I am now at the point where I have a very hard time justifying repair to OEM head castings; it's worth some extra money to me to scrap 'em and start fresh with aftermarket aluminum heads. I got lucky, my Olds heads did end up being usable and water-tight--but--it could easily have gone the other way. So now I have 1/2 the cost of aluminum heads invested in compromised castings--and--the front of the car is too damn heavy anyway. What was I thinking? |
