Hello,
I am very close to finishing up my 62 Tempest Lemans restoration (5 years in the making) and cannot determine what kind of clip/fastener is used to affix the trim that wraps from the rear passenger windows around to the back window. I've attached a picture of the rusted remains of the only clip I found. Part II: Other than clipsandfasteners.com and restorationspecialties.com, are there better sources for this? Thanks in Advance ... MLB p.s. I will be at Billetproof in Antioch, CA in 2 weeks ... maybe I will see some of you there. |

Les, GM part number is 4657731, clip, back window reveal moulding. section 11.209 in the parts book. Dont know if that helps, but thats the number.

Keith,
Thanks for getting back so quickly. I think that P/N is for the clips that retain the back windshield itself, not the piece of trim that wraps from the back window to the back windshield. However, your info help put me on the trail to spec'n the right part. The fastener I am looking for has a top width of 7/16" and can slide freely in a 1/2" channel. It appears to be some sort of press fit. I think I am closing in on it. Thanks again ... Les |

Les, my parts book shows that number as the clip that holds the reveal molding on. I have a couple of cars with no back window. I will look see if I have any of the clips.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for taking a look, I appreciate it. I've posted another picture(s) of what I am looking for. I think I need threaded clips and have to affix them from inside the trunk, but I could be wrong. Les |

AhhhHaaa!!!! Thats different!! I thought you were looking for the clips that hold on the stainless around the back window!!! I think I have some of those!!! Will let ya know!!
I'm back!! I found one set of stainless with one clip!! It does not screw on from the inside. It is a push to connect clip. The way it fits in the trim, it looks like you can use a plastic push pin & trim off the sides of the push pin to make it fit in the trim slot. I have 3 parts cars with that stainless on them. I have no idea if I can get them off without damaging them. PS!!!!!! I think ya need a bigger set of speakers in the back window!!

I used some clips from Restoration Specialties- this was the closest I could find in their bins at the Charlotte Auto Fair several years ago.
This photo shows an original clip and one from RS which I trimmed to fit my LeMans trim. Now for the bad news- I don't have the part number for these. Maybe you could send this picture to RS and see if they can match it. |

You find anything yet?? If ya want, I can try & pull a set of stainless off & see if they are reusable.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for the offer! I am waiting for some nylon moulding fasteners and I am going to cut the round head to fit the slot (the SDStanley technique). If the 5/16" ribbed shaft is maleable enough to fit in the 1/4" hole, then I am done. I should get them this weekend (I hope) and I'll let you know how it goes. I have a short term fix (for Billetproof) which is use some trim adhesive at the show when the car is not moving, but that only has a lifetime of 8 hours. Thanks, MLB |
