Default Restore, Keep as Survivor, Sell or Build

I bought this 67 last summer with intentions of taking it apart, powdercoating frame, add 4 wheel disks, lower front about 1 1/2 inches, modify suspension for better handling, changing auto to 5 speed manual (Tremec, etc.) adding Butler heads, Tri-Power, 2 stage paint, Hurst type wheels, etc.

The car has 43,000 original miles, original vinyl top, 100% original interior, 75% original paint (LR quarter repainted with laquer in the 60's, low quality enamel repaint of RF fender and hood in the late 70's/early 80's. Under the hood the radiator support and inner fenders appear to have been repainted at some point. Master cylinder replaced but have original. Misc. service items replaced. Tons of documentation, invoices, titles, etc.

A number of shops and individuals (including Mr. Wangers) suggested there aren't many survivor type cars left and I should preserve as is.

Not a survivor car collector -- what would you guys do?

I will be the first of many to say keep it the way it is, only original once etc, etc. Nice car too.

I wouldn't change anything, it is way too nice to alter. Considering how many non-original cars are available out there, maybe sell that to someone who wants to preserve it and find a candidate that may have some of the mods you want.

BTW, if you're on the West coast and decide it's for sale, please contact me by private message.

Leave it the way it is.Way to nice to restore or mod.You could probably see it and have enough to buy a decent non-original car to build the way you want.

I would say leave it as is. There are plenty of restored, non matching numbers cars that you can purchase and do the mods to.
While I stand by my opinion as to leave the car as is, I think it's true survivor status has been compromised by the underhood detailing that has been done.

I was thinking the same thing the minute I saw the engine pic. I still leave it alone. If you want to mod it a GTO, find another car.

Ditto to what Andre says. Plus the repaint with enamel kind of ruins it's survivor status a bit.

Don't take my comments as putting it down, it is a beautiful car and one to hang on to. Drive it with pride! And find another one to tinker with.

Yea, leave as is. Way too nice to mod. It's only original once. Plenty of cars out there that need to be restored and resto modded.

Leave it alone. Nice car as it is.

There are many others out there to modify/cut up.

That car is too nice to mod. If you have your mind set on making a Hot Rod out of a 66/7 Pontiac A body, you should be able to sell the GTO, buy a solid Tempest or Lemans, do all your mods, and still have money left over.

Another vote here to keep it original - that's a great looking car. Nothing beats a true survivor!
